Just wondering what peoples views are on which would be the best role to take on (forgetting about the fact PCSO get paid) in terms of being more beneficial towards PC recruitment

Good morning to you all! I'm looking to join as a Special and figured it would be rude not to say hi! This forum is a great resource for building the big picture about what life as a Special is all about, so thanks to all those who have clearly pumped their sweat and blood into it! Until I join *touch wood*, I'll probably just lurk in the shadows, but I look forward to chatting to some of you soon! In particular, if we have any reserve forces (RNR, TA or RAuxAF) pers, I'd be very interested to hear how you juggle the commitments of both reserve service and life as a Police Special. Ciao for now, JediMonkey

A little while ago, I was driving (off duty) along a fast moving 'A road' at around 10pm. Not much traffic, maybe a car per minute coming towards me. It was unlit, pitch dark, and in all honesty, I was slightly tired, though felt fine driving. As I went around a bend, somewhere near the national speed limit of 60mph, I saw a figure in the corner of my eye on the other side of the road. I thought I imagined it... and started to be thankful home was only 15 mins away - but something in my mind was really nagging at me, so I turned around, and went back for a look. I drove slowly, and, as I returned back to where I was, I saw a figure of a person in the road. Wearing all bl…

Hi I have applied to be a special and have passed all my tests. I have just had confirmation from the vetting office that I have also cleared the security checks. I asked the vetting office what the next step was and they have informed me to contact 'a number for special’s recruitment'. I telephoned the number and it puts me through to a female’s voicemail. I don’t really want to leave a voicemail as I am not too sure who the lady is. Can someone help with pointing me in the right direction with who do I contact next regarding my application. I have looked through the website and cannot find anything. Any advice would be great. Thanks

The alarm clock goes off, it's early in the morn, I rub my eyes as I let out a yawn. As I dress my mind wonders of the day that lies ahead, As I count the hours until I can return to my bed. Another working day as I creep from my house, Leaving loved ones to sleep, I'm as quiet as a mouse. My car pulls from the drive, the radio blurs into life, What will the day bring, what troubles, what strife? There it is, my nick, I see it, I care, As I pass by the badge I so proudly wear. Vest on, belt on, to the parade room I go, To my colleagues and friends, banter in full flow. We're briefed up and ready for the challenges of the day, To serve and protect in every sig…

Just wondering what peoples views are on this; I am currently a Special for Cheshire constabulary, which I love! and really enjoy working with the NPU I work with, but have recently been looking at PCSO recruitment, as I dont enjoy my day job at the moment, so becoming a PCSO would be ideal. However, im worried that if I was lucky enough to get through the application process, that I would miss my powers as a special as I want to join as a Regular officer in the near future. Could anyone shine some light on the the situation or give some advice?

Title says it all. Should we fit police officers with cameras? The way I see it is we're always on the losing side of a massive public relations battle, this would be a way of showing how we *really* police. PROS as I see them: More evidence Paints a better picture in court Memory aid for notes/write-ups We can release them to the media when things like gate-gate happen We get a clearer picture of what happened when an officer loses conciousness or dies while attending a call Officers more likely to play by the rules Puts an end to false police assault claims Let's us show what really happened Will literally allow people to see events from an office…

I seem to wind quite a few "customers" up. It's certainly not deliberate. Indeed, I'd rather have a calm and compliant "customer" than an irate one: they are far easier to deal with. I always like to think of myself as exceedingly polite and I always try and deal with people with utmost consideration. Whether they be victims, suspects, colleagues or whatever. However, I find that politeness and efforts to explain things thoroughly are somewhat wasted on a considerable number of my "customers". Indeed, I find that being very polite seems to agitate them even further. I'm at a loss to why that is. I am well aware that sometimes over-politeness can come across as patronisi…
