After just reading an insurance related topic, I just wondered.... I am awaiting final vetting prior (hopefully) to starting training. I have a full time job. Whilst on SC duty are you insured ? I had a motorbike accident many years ago and was off work for 3 months, I was lucky I could afford the time away from work but not everybody can. Is insurance against accidents, injuries or worse (recent events in mind) arranged for SC's or is this something we have to do ourselves ?

Really, exactly why do some people believe this is over the top? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-18658190

Hi all, I'm brand new here and have only just applied for the role as a SC... so in terms of knowledge, I know ZILCH!... Today I was asking myself out of curiosity... it's a fact that Insurance is completely compolsary when it comes to any vehicle on a public road... but how does the police insurance system work? Does it also apply to the police, in the sense that a traditional policy is set up via an insurance company, or is there a government 'pot' (via tax-payers) that covers any losses to third parties whereby there is an accident/incident involving a police vehicle? If it's via the insurance companies, I dread to think what the premiums would be like with the hig…

Yeah, as stated, got my offer a while back for the CNC. Training starts October 29th. Sadly though i have to pack in my role as a Special Constable within Greater Manchester Police to purse my dreams of being a PC, or AFO as the case might be. Training is 3 months away from home, so i will not be able to put in the hours there, and then i can't be a PC and SC at the same time regardless of the force. Yes, i had the option of pulling my application with the CNC, and putting it in for the regs with GMP, however, i feel i made the right decision. Although i live and breath for GMP, i feel that i will accomplish more career wise in the CNC. And hey, if it does not work, i …

Greetings all, Yesterday at work whilst filling out an MG16 form for a file upgrade request from CPS I was going through the defendants pre-cons and was naturally utterly appaulled at his criminal history, he'd been convicted of some awful crimes in his somewhat short 25years on the planet and had served a good chunk of his adult life in prison with fairly short sentences... He'd only been released for a fairly short amount of time before he found himself wandering on 'The Commissions' patch and finding himself in trouble with us... I got talking to a colleague about it and the question was raised: "Should the UK have a 'Three Strikes' rule in place?" - meaning that if…

How many of us breach the Working Time Regulations policy? http://www.npia.poli...ular.FinalV.pdf My force has adopted this policy but I have never been aware of it ever being enforced or even looked at. I was wondering if there are differences between forces with this particular policy? I know plenty of officers in my force that regulary breach the 48hr rule and the eleven hour rest period. So..... Does it apply to you and your force? Do you breach it? Does it affect the minimum 16 hours a month expectation?

Hello, I was hoping one of you would be able to help. My husband was arrested last month and released on bail till October. However, the police phoned today and asked him to come into the station tomorow to 'answer a few questions'. What does this mean? Are they likely to book him into custody again, or will ti really be just a few questions and then he'll be allowed to leave? His offence is minor, and they were waiting for cctv to come back - which will show my husband didnt commit the offence.

Have a look at this: http://www.ted.com/talks/scott_fraser_the_problem_with_eyewitness_testimony.html It's amazing that when you're taking statements from supposed eyewitnesses, quite how different they can be. Perhaps we need to remind ourselves that witness accounts can be far from reliable.

Does anyone recommend taking out 2 sets of handcuffs on patrol? I've seen a few posts and heard a few specials talking about taking 2 sets out in case there's demand for them, whats your opinions and where would you store the 2nd set on your person?

It seems obvious now that the new A/C TP does not like specials , and nor does the commissoner himself. Its been decided as we have heard (and had been rumoured), to move all specials to a SNT network including the OSU. Now it appears that specials will lose their specialist skills including driving, and public order level 2 . Just what the hell is it that the MET scream out for specials during the riots and to do as many olympic shifts as possible, and then to (putting it very bluntly) screw us over. How will new specials get their IPS if they work on an SNT unit? As specials cannot always work every Frid/Sat they are not going to get to know the householders on the…
