Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere else. https://twitter.com/...761178898587649 (I believe this is to/from Manchester only). Nuff said. :new_yummy: [edit: this has indeed been posted somewhere else. Sigh. Mods, do your finest...]

I'm about to start studying BSc (Honours) Criminology and Psychology Studies. What advantage will this give me, if any at all, if I want to apply to the Police Force? (upon completion of the degree)

yesterday in my home town we had a night street Procession to raise funds for the seafront lights. it was a sort of evening summer carnival with the usual floats, police, fire and ambulance girls with pom poms etc. there was a security company providing stewards for the event but one thing i did notice was that they were: wearing hi-viz Jackets (as expected) carrying huge maglites hanging from there belts (not really needed it was in a well lit part of the town) black combat trousers tucked into boots (again not really necessary) a few other black pouches (i dont know what they contained) and the one thing that struck me was they were all carrying handcuffs (defi…

What's the score in regulations about changing the hours you have to work for a particular duty? I don't mean working on a rest day, I mean being moved from an early to a late etc. Can this be done with no notice or agreement and without any compensation or are there any protections in regs or elsewhere? I was reading the provisions made under reg 22 - where it says that a duty roster should be published showing what times officers are expected to work, what days they are supposed to work etc. and that notice for a new roster being implemented must be at least 90 days. It seems a bit opaque: does this only relate to the roster as a whole or does it relate to every single…

We were told in our training that nation wide, they are turning the national emergency code into a standardised code. Up here we had our own local code but we were told that this meant something different in other forces! For example we were told in Kent it means cat stuck up a tree! Are everyone else's forces' beginning to do this?

Does any one have any good advice or can share their views on and for dealing with motorbike nuisance. (This is not about legal motorbikes on the roads) I don't want a discussion on why we should or should not pursuit motorbikes. But it appears that they always get away and there is little that can be done about it. They very rarely stop for the police and create much danger riding on the paths and pulling wheelies on the road! Often riding in parks with small children playing and are generally wreckless in how they drive. Even if you see someone stopped on one, by the time you approach they tend to ride off. I guess if you get to the bike you could grab the keys of …

Family and friends are always worried when they know you are on duty as a Police Officer. I myself have been assaulted on numerous occasions whilst on duty but fortunately I have never benn hospitalised. It is a well known fact that officers are frequently placed in dangerous situations where their personal saftey is severely compromised. On top of facing all the usual dangers of being a Police Officer, Special Constables in many forces must wear a 'SPECIAL CONSTABULARY' badge or 'Crown and SC' on the shoulder. Over the years the size and design of these insignia have been reduced from what was once a banana shaped banner on a shirt sleeve. Today, we in Merseyside, wea…

Hello! I wasn't too sure how to word this post in the title so I hope it sees fit! If not let me know . Anywho! After watching the latest episode of 999 Whats your emergency, it has left me in tears in parts; really deeply affecting stuff. Big respect to all those who deal with domestic abuse from the services (and of course, the victims who leave the abusers). it got me thinking, do you ever find your self in the mind set of 'i will be there soon' rather than '##### lets get there now'. Let me explain, lets say I call 999 as someone is trying to seriously injure me with a weapon in my house. I would want the police to be here NOW and right away; however if you get cal…

Below is a list of all UK police forces' non-emergency contact numbers. Wherever possible I've included alternative land line numbers that connect to the same main switchboards (as it often costs more to dial '08' numbers). If there are any mistakes or numbers need updating let me know and I'll correct them right away! England: Avon & Somerset Constabulary - 101 / 01275 818340 Bedfordshire Police - 101 / 01234 841212 Cambridgeshire Constabulary - 101 / 01480 456111 Cheshire Constabulary - 101 / 0845 458 0000 / 01244 350000 City of London Police - 101 / 0207 601 2222 Cleveland Police - 101 / 01642 326326 Cumbria Constabulary - 101 / 0845 3300 247 Derbysh…

This is something I was thinking about recently after watching someone in front of me hesitating when seeing the initial solid orange, slowing and then when the reds had started they powered through before the barriers had descended. I appreciate people do this with traffic lights too, but why use a different lighting system?

This is separate to the news thread offering condolences for fallen colleagues, and I haven't seen a thread specifically for the plans to go to GMP. However given tonight's press release I think we can have a thread for it in it's own right. (Mods if there is already one and I haven't seen it, close this and merge..?)

The amount of paperwork and red tape Police have to deal with is well documented by the media, but I was wondering just how bad really is it? Obviously depending on the offence there will be varying amounts of paperwork required, but I was just wondering how much time is spent form filling roughly for different offences (e.g. speeding, burglary, shoplifting...) and therefore how much officer time could reasonably be saved? Also, does the amount of paper that's required to be filled in vary between specials and regs? Thanks in advance for any responses

I was browsing legislation.gov.uk and was asked to do a survey. I don't usually bother, but today, I decided it was worth my time. They asked a lot of questions which I assume is designed to make the legislation easier to read and understand. The site is already one of the best .gov sites out there, lets make it even better. I would encourage everyone here to participate because this could genuinely make our lives a little easier. http://www.surveygiz...ion-survey-0812

This question's for serving specials who've had experience with Inspectors and above. In the past I've always noticed a lack of respect for specials from some sergeants; unwilling to even deploy specials! But I've never experienced (although I've heard of) a lack of respect for specials from Inspectors, Chief Inspectors etc. I've found a great shift group who appreciate the fact that I volunteer and give up my own time to assist them and everyone on the shift group (including the sergeant) is extremely grateful whenever I walk through the office doors. I've gotten to know everyone in the shift group and I feel like a valued member of the team. Today I was talking to an…

Following the attached news report, I wondered to myself, is Rasafarianism a religion - I have never dealt with a Rasta, and wouldn't know what I could and couldn't do as regards searches. Can anyone shed any light
