Just reading a latest news article on the April Jones case, Mark Bridger is being charged with "unlawful disposal and concealment of a body". It got me thinking.. surely it cannot be lawful to dispose of a body right? I could be wrong but if not then wouldn't the charge be disposal and concealment of a body? Anyone any idea where I can purchase one of the 'Our heroes wear collar number' bands from in memories of PC Fiona Bone & PC Nicola Hughes. Been trying to get hold of one over the past couple of days and had no luck.

Evening All, Here's a clip from good old Jack Warner as Sergeant George Dixon riding in the back of a police Rover 2000 TC with what looks like a Chief Super. Notice the pre diced banded hats and the simpler, more direct way policing was in those days (provided the clip is accurate). I used to have an old police (white) Rover just like this in Kent back in 1992. I wore a dark blue police-style security uniform back then but without the diced band on my peaked cap. A colIeague and I once parked up in a lay by on the A229 to check under the car for a rattling noise. He had those big old white sergeant stripes on his arms and was waving a torch about as we checked under th…

Hello everyone, I apologise if this has been posted somewhere else. I am in training for special constable at the moment (finish mid november). Murder is an indictable offence correct? So shouldn't he be tried against the CPS or have I drastically misunderstood something? Thanks :-)

I went to the above conference this weekend. Firstly i wonder how many SC's have heard of it? Secondly it needs modernising if its to have any sort of future. Far to many none operational Chief Officers, a lack of females and BME officers.

Hey all, I was wondering how employers are with you when you have to attend court? As a special constables do they HAVE to let you go to court? Are the employers given any paperwork as such for the attendance of the employee? Thanks

Accountability is central to many modern public services and branches of government - the police have been increasingly accountable and people, rightly, question our processes, procedures and things that have happened. However, I increasingly seem to be apologising for other branches of the CJS: especially the courts. I think we do our job well. The fact that we put so many people before the courts each year - and who are subsequently convicted - demonstrates that we catch the baddies and gather the evidence to prosecute them. However, as we all know we deal with people with long conviction histories, people's whose PNC records destroy a small forest whenever they are p…

Hello everyone. It's not often that you get comments such as "good sentence" and "well done the judiciary" from members' of this forum related to news stories. So purely out of curiosity here are a few scenarios and I'm wondering what you would think is a suitable sentence. I have included the Sentencing Council recommendations to Judges and JPs as a reference point. To make the answers consistent, can you reply by firstly stating what you would do then discuss your answers below, such as Scenario 1 = blah Scenario 2 = blah etc Look forward to reading your thoughts, Matt. --- Scenario1 Driver kills a child who didn't look whilst crossing the street, no offence…

The number of special constables in my force area has dropped by about 40 officers in a year. I know we have focussed on managing the non attendees but i wondered if numbers in other forces were dropping, if so why?

Can anyone tell me of police forces that operate under a single BCU structure, and how are the specials structured in these forces? I am tasked with developing a new command structure for my specials. We currently have 4 BCU but the now model for the force wont have that many. Please message me if you dont want to leave comments in the main forum. Thanks Mike

Hi, I am a 21 year old female who is a Child Development Officer employed within a childcare centre involving children from birth to 12 years. I was charged under the telecommunications act section 127 1a in april this year. I have recieved a summons to court today. This has come about because my partners sister who hasnt spoken to my partner in over 3 years because she stole money from me stopped him in the street while he was at work and started to shout abuse and name call myself. Later that night I called her to try and sort things out as I cannot hold grudges and let her away with stealing from me which has nowcame to my attention that it was the wrong thing to do…

Hi guys, Just wondering does it bother/annoy anyone else when on job adverts and recruitment pages when they say 'we especially welcome applications from members of ethnic minorities'. I understand that this is because stats say this cross section is under represented however do you think it would be accepted if a job advert said 'we especially welcome applications from young white men'? Just my own thoughts but I don't think any applications should be particularly encouraged or sought after in the same way that no person should be discriminated against. Seems like a bit of a contradiction to the equal opportunities doo dahh if this is put on job adverts. Please…
