Hi everyone, I'd love to ask about going up in the ranks of the special constabulary. What's primarily their job? One police officer told me not to bother climbing the ranks of the specials? Someone elbreate this a bit more...please! Thank you! :D Ryan :)

For officers information in regard to the PCC elections and PURDAH. Might be of some interest to all that the legally enforced (an punishable) of PURDAH is still inforce where basically anything other than confirmig that the elections are going on, is a no no, including photos with the candidates, slagging them off, providing support or encouraging (or not) voting is a world of hurt for police officers/staff. http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/police/pcc/communications-handbook?view=Binary

Apologies if this has been asked before. But can a Special (or any copper for that matter) carry Baton with them off duty legally. Please don't derail the thread with tonnes of questions asking "Why would you want to carry a baton off duty" and again please no planks posting "If you have to ask this question... you don't deserve to be a special" I'm not one.... that is the point in me asking. Cheers guys

Just had a class discussing this article that was written by my lecturer. Thought some of you mind find it an interesting read, I'm sure he would love to hear any feedback you have to give N.B. this is written from a management perspective Also it is an academic article so as such is rather long If you aren't a big reader but you are interested you may want to skip to the "Motives for disclosing in the workplace" Also please don't bother commenting say "hahaha long post" or anything silly. I'm not forcing anyone to read it

So out for my not-quite-nightly-but-getting-there run and i notice that a cross roads near my house has traffic lights, but they have stopped working. As sometimes happens on runs, my mind turns to thinking and i wonder at the events which would follow, if those died during mid day normal (medium/heavy) traffic. Has anyone ever had to direct a full cross roads, as in not the usual directions which are more likely road closures? and following this light failure, how long did it take for the council to repair them?

Inspired by Cheetah's not dissimilar topic on police facts you've made up yourself, what are the most outrageous police 'facts' that you've actually heard from genuinely believing MOPs? I guess the classic example is the obligation to let a pregnant woman urinate in your helmet if she so requests. I'll start the ball rolling with one of my own: I wear a custodian with a crest that has a small black metal panel on the front of it. A surprising number of people are not only convinced that police officers now carry video cameras in their helmets, but have pointed out this panel ("the lens") in support of that fact. One otherwise entirely compliant drunk was highly reluc…

Two questions about that all mighty warrant card: What happens if you lose it? Can't you work or anything if you lose it and awaiting a new one? What happens to YOU if you lose it? What disciplinary procedures are put in place? and What can you do with a warrant card? Except confirm your authority as a Police Officer and free travel? Can it be used in general to prove ID or travel?

A friend of mine who has a big drink problem was involved in a road accident about 3 weeks ago with a infant ( 23 months) in the car. Fortunately he was unharmed. She was 3 times over the drink drive limit and had a head on collision with another car, her car being in the on coming lane. She has a previous conviction that is less than 6 months old for carless driving, failing to stop and failing to report an accident. She pleaded guilty to the charge and was given 6 points on her licence. She went to court today and the duty solicitor went before the district judge asking for the case to be adjourned until next Tuesday. HE told her to be prepared to go to prison. He gave…

I was searching this as I was curious as to where these strange names come from and found this interesting BBC article. I've searched the forum to see if there's already been a thread on it, but it doesn't seem so. Just thought it was quite interesting! Read the rest of the article here.

Hi guys, As the title says... There is news that UK police forces will trial and use the blackberry playbook! This has been used with great effect on US and Canadian forces. Personally, I own a playbook and think it will be a great addition to the equipment our officers have at their disposal! Have a read! http://m.crackberry....kberry-playbook Let me know what you think! Cheers Jamie.

I understand that knifes that don't lock that are under 3 inches are allowed. However are these knifes not considered an offensive weapon? Or is an offensive weapon the intention to use it offensively and our law allows for people to carry non fixed knifes ie for multi tools.
