Can someone point me in the direction of the initial legislation/topics a new student officer learns in their basic training? I'm sure theres a link out there somewhere but google just keeps brining up pages about police officer recruitment. Regards

This will probably vary force-to-force but, what are your 'pro' words? This is for when you're with your colleague, when you use cheesy words that refer back to radio user or common policing terms that you manage to sneak into your conversations without thinking. My common word is 'roger' - I even use it when talking to my parents. At first they was 'Who's Roger?' then I had the privilege of explaining radio user pro words to them, my pleasure! :new_shades:

..do you/did you work as a Special Constable? I've said before that it's an amazing thing that you good folk do. What were your reasons for joining? And what is it that keeps you returning for more free abuse from the public and getting to work long hours for free?

Hi my first post in a long time. Actually sInce before I went on the initial assessment day over 5 years ago.... Anyway, time has passed and as it happens I have got myself a board for a DC position on local CID. This will be my first interview as I seem to have always found myself on attachments. Please can anyone offer ANY advice on good board techniques, ANY good examples of things/processes to mention and some clever lines which might just get me the few extra points needed to pass. Also if anyone knows of standard questions which come up time and time again....? Please, any suggestions welcomed no matter how obvious. Thanks in advance.

There are many 'cop' shows now on tv, road wars, coppers, 999:what's your emergency etc etc Have any of you been asked to have a tv camera follow you? Or appeared at an incident whereby the cameras are there? Opinions?

I wasn't sure to add this to the Recruitment section or General Discussion, so Mods please do move if I'm wrong :-) As a current applicant I was looking around for Bleep Test apps and other fitness apps to aid in training for the bleep test. The general consensus seems to be that 5.4 is a low difficulty but I'm obviously aiming well beyond that for my general well being and such like :-) So in finding Bleep Test Pro, which has the 15m Police distance as an option, I was very happy. However I also found one called Zombies, Run! which in my opinion is one of the most original apps invented for those seeking an active lifestyle. I've added a link below (if that's allowed…

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here has any information on Emergency call handling. I've just found out i was successful in getting a job doing this, and i know what it entails and i love the sound of the job. Does anyone have any stories relating to this job, whether it be; - mistakes -stressful situations - day to day life I think this would be useful for me upon starting my training, as i found it really difficult to find out what a day to day life would be in this role. Thanks in advance, and i'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong area .

Just a quick question out of curiosity... I am just about to start my training as a Special Constable. I can't wait! I have always wanted to become a Police Officer and it is nice to finally be getting on track! I was just wondering, does it take a long time to become a Regular Officer providing you put the effort in? I am looking to put in a lot of hours and hope to get my independent patrol status a.s.a.p! As a Special I hope to gain a lot of invaluable experience which I can carry onto the Regulars! Please don't assume i'm thinking to far ahead. I'm merely just asking out of interest. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks

Reading the local rag, I saw someone I used to know in the magistrates court report as: Name, age, of Address, Town, theft, 40 days prison (consecutive) suspended for 12 months; theft, 40 days prison (concurrent) suspended for 12 months; breached a community order for two counts of shoplifting, 10 days prison (consecutive) suspended for 12 months on each count; breached a community order for six counts of shoplifting, 10 days prison (consecutive) on each count. Such a charmer I see. Can I check my understanding of the sentencing please: 1. 40 days Suspended for 12 months 2. 40 days (but at the same time as 1.) suspended for 12 months 3. 2 x 10 days = 20 days susp…

Hi All, I have a meeting with my manager at work next week, to discuss the possibility of having an allocation of time off for specialling duties. I understand there are other employers who do this for employees who are specials. Anyone got any advice? Many thanks

(I'm not sure if this is OK in 'general discussion', but I'm sure our friendly Mods will move it (please) if not.) I really do think it's time for a great shake-up of our Judiciary and Magistrates. The paltry sentences handed down for overwhealmingly serious and violent offences is getting ridiculous these days. Every week we read, hear or see that violent offenders who have seriously injured others are being spared custodial sentences. The public has a right to be protected from these people. Police officers work their socks off getting all the t's crossed and the i's dotted, only to see the offender walk free with a smile on their face. Victims and law-abiding mem…

Hi all, Im just wondering what people think about SC's being armed with tasers? I was trying to weigh up the pros and cons today at work (i was bored!) so thought i'd post on here to get other peoples opinions... Personally, I think that all Police Officers should be armed with at least a taser, but i dont know how viable this option would be? And i dont think that being a Special should stop you from being taser trained. (correct me if im wrong, but last i heard you couldnt) (p.s. If this has been posted elsewhere please delete and re-dricet me, plus if anyone wants to / can turn this in to a poll, then please feel free to!) Cheers Jamie.

Afternoon :new_shades: Just wanted to share with you something I witnessed today. I was going home after visit to bank when I came across two ladies arguing after a minor traffic collision. Two SYP PCSO's where present and "tying" to deal with the issue HOWEVER with all the respect to them they seemed a little deluded and unable to deal with the situation. NOW I am a former BTP PCSO and I take my hat of to them and I respect job they do 100% but these two ladies where arguing/swearing at each other and these PCSO's where just watching :new_eyebrow: One the ladies walked off swearing and the PCSO said "stop swearing" (this was in middle of a very busy shopping area) .…
