Recently I discovered that when Police officers are sworn in, The Oath of the Office of Constable is considerably different between Scotland and England & Wales: Scottish Oath: “I, do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of constable with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, and that I will uphold fundamental human rights and accord equal respect to all people, according to law.” Video of Steven House the first Chief Constable of Scotland being sworn in http://www.acpos.police.uk/News%20Items/News1_10_12.html England & Wales: I, ... of ... do solemnly and sincerely declare and a…

How do you as an officer deal with beggars and prolific beggars? How do your force deal with this? Just curious as our city centre is very highly populated by beggars.

Just curious - in my area we operate, on a weekly basis, regular Police / Paramedic co-responder schemes. This involves a Paramedic running a Rapid Response Vehicle and at least one Special Constable riding alongside to respond to either calls from the Ambulance Service or the Police, generally to calls which would require both services to be in attendance. It works really well and I work the scheme on a regular basis... but does anybody else have a similar scheme working in their area, and if so what are your experiences of it?

Season of good will and all that...Met up with a friend recently, who's been a reg' for nearly 20yrs. He related a story about 'nicking' a shoplifter. It go's something like this..... Called to a large department store, young female with two kids (under 5 in tow), detained by store security for shoplifting nappies. Store initially wanted to prosecute, turns out she was in a 'battered wives' hostel (excuse terminology) and skint. He bought her nappies and gave her £20 from his own pocket. Crew mate reported this to supervisor and now said mate has a warning on his file. Have you any experience of similar? ie: showing a bit of compassion....

For those who have no aspirations to become a regular. Do you mention it on your CV ? I have heard mixed advice - Pros Character building, chance to develop extra skills for those of us who have desk jobs. Cons A recruitment agent advised me to take it off when I was a serving officer as employers might confuse it along with the duties of being a military reservist (see http://www.sabre.mod.uk/ legalities about when you are deployed, what happens to you day job etc) , Sabre does a very good job of promoting reservist duties. Perception of having another job and not being able to commit to your day job I mention it very briefly at the end of my CV, it does…

From: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20556330 While I'd advocate the long term move towards digital, I suppose that the current lack of funding and availability of cassettes negates this. Longer term, better quality recording kit and improved transcription software could make interview transcripts a much less laborious task. Any thoughts?

I gave the best I could in my SC life But I must admit I became very disillusioned at the end of my service and left the Specials to take up the challenge of being a TA Officer I look back at my time with the Specials in two ways I believe I became a better person for being a Special and it has helped me in life no end and for that I am very great full But I also think now in older age I was a fool im sorry to say I think back to times when I did put my self in harms way I took risks as all police officers I was injured on duty and it was at that time that I realised how vulnerable Special Constables are and at that time I was shocked im not going to go into what happe…
