Hi All, Here is a possible dilemma, as an officer, having to arrest someone you know either a friend, family member or partner. You may have thought about this or have actually had to do it. Has anyone been in this position, what did you do or how would you handle it?

Happy New Year to everyone. Our force is changing to Sepura Radios after 5 years of Motorola. What sepura would it be? Is there generally one the police currently use. And Are they generally comparable to the Motorola or is this a cost cutting measure? i.e. Less features, cheaper build quality, etc.

Sorry cos I know this is somewhere knocking about. I really can't find it. There was a comprehensive list showing all forces and what type of driving they allow their Specials to do ie: A to B/pursuit etc. anyone know of its whereabouts?

I've recently purchased a back up set of cuffs that are hinged and made by the same company that supply our current speed cuffs. My colleagues have expressed concerns about the use of non force issue kit. Does anyone know the policy of West Midlands Police, and am I able to use the cuffs I've bought as a back up set?

Hi all I was faced with this question at my PCSO interview last year, it caught me a little off guard and I gave a really poor answer - something along the lines of "More visibility in the rural areas". It has bugged me since. (I take "Giving me a job for starters" would have been an inappropriate response :D) I was wondering if you could share your ideas on how you would improve your particular force? Thanks TH

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01phhb9 Listen from 0:30:00 - 0:38:00 (unless you want to hear the whole thing, which I recommend) The idea is that we don't know how well community orders, drug treatment orders or other punishments work. We simply don't have the evidence to make a reasoned decision and judges and magistrates rarely see the outcomes of their sentences. To better guide our policy the proposition is that certain people on conviction have randomly assigned punishment. So you may slit up all those who have drugs problems between drug treatment orders and incarceration. This may seem unfair to many people, but IMO we need to know what criminal justice po…

Firstly Happy New Year to everyone! Unfortunately as you all know, there's always one muppet out to spoil new year and last night at 10 to 10 I walked into a kebab shop to see a guy (usual dress code) ranting and shouting racial abuse at the lad behind the counter (because he told him the mixed kebab was £7 and this was taking the rise out of his life ) After much tolerance to the abusive customer, the owner decided to refuse to serve him At this point he threatened to jump over the counter and smash his head in. Furthermore, his (loud, very loud) girlfriend who was trying to calm him down, but was actually winding him up tried to move him out the shop at which poin…

Evening, Just a quick one, I’ve had experiences of both English and Scottish forces as well as urban and rural / semi rural policing. Been at it 5 years now since I was green eyed 18 year old. Currently a regular in Scotland, however, I’m looking to transfer to the Met in the next 12 months or so. I have it on good authority they’ll be opening up periodically around every 6 months or so for transfers in the near future. I’ve always fancied the Met mainly for the apparent uniqueness of policing London. In addition I’m also starting to miss working in a purely urban / inner city environment. I know it’s going through a lot of change at the minute, but thought I’d seek s…

Hiya Guys & Gals, I thought it would be interesting to see what extra courses (excluding driving courses) are available to specials once they have finished their initial training and how it varies from force to force. Take myself for instance, I'm in Wiltshire and I've done Speed Gun Intox Machine ANPR in car ANPR van What's everyone else done?

.... it seems. A strong statement ? I am just about to start my 3rd weekend (of 8) of SC training, so I am probably reading more articles and observing more than I was before. I don't do anything wrong, do my job, get on with life and generally 'do the right thing', so I have not come into contact with the Police before. I assumed they will come if needed, so my perception of them is good. I realise that newspapers only sell when they have something which will cause a stir/reaction/interest/thought etc, but police related stories are always bad. Even when they are non stories i.e Google pic with two PC's in a phone box, nothing better to do/no criminals to catch/blah …

Is there still anything out there that you would wish to share. If so could you be so kind as to PM me. Many Thanks, Be Safe, Steve

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section, because I truly had no idea where I could post this... I was thinking... wihen it comes to police pursuits, we should have EMP guns (yeah it may sound something from Fast and the Furious and it may sound dumb, too) but why not, huh? I personally think it might be a bit more effective than a stinger, as sometimes the stinger doesn't always gaurantee that the car will come to a stop (some crazy criminals will drive on their rims if they are desperate enough) Do you personally see a futrue for EMP? It could bring the car to a stop (and not a sudden stop, so it would be quite safe in terms of sending the car out of control)

This might be a silly question, I could only find information regarding American policing hence this post. If you are arrested by the police, what happens if they do not read you 'your rights'? :new_doh2: :new_hmmm: Cheers

Hi all, I have a final in house interview coming up soon. Does anyone have any advice they can give me for this? (Obviously without giving anything away you shouldn't.) I have heard that it is quite different to the search interview. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks. Nick.
