What are the rules for police drivers driving on the pavement or through grass areas, I.e. footpath through park. Obv: for a grade 1 job or search for a suspect.

I'm trying to find a new job but I'm having serious trouble trying to sell the idea of being a special for my local constabulary to my employers. They seem reluctant to want to offer time off for court appearances and possible early finishes on a Friday to attend training. I have referred them to the employer support guide offered by the NPIA but they just don't buy it. What job do you do and how did you persuade your employer that you being in the specials was a good thing?

So... Has anyone found they pick many, many holes in what people say and mean? I have.... Example: 'I didn't do it'. OIC: 'Do what?' Villian: 'It, the damage.' OIC: 'Damage?' Villiant: 'The damage to XYZ' OIC: 'What damage was there?' Villiant: 'Scracthes, broken glass...' OIC: 'How was that caused?' Villian: 'I don't know.' OIC: 'But you've just told me the damage' Villian: 'yeah. 'cause you just tole me.' OIC: 'No, I didn't.'

So I was browsing around the tinterwebs (when I should have been doing coursework) and I came across this video: !So what does everyone here think of section 5? Does it prohibit free speach? Does it protect people from threatening behaviour?

So just a few minutes a go two guys broke into my neighbour's house and were quite noisy about it prompting my parents to call the police. Unfortunately when they arrived the two suspects just walked past. If they legged it past the police car, they would've given the game away.

Ladies and Gents, I am currently progressing a business plan at work and need your help in doing so. I am collating details of all forces which currently run an 'Area car' system/capability. By this, I mean a vehicle which is attached to shift to offer an advanced capability in the absence of Roads Policing/Firearms Support/Road Crime. The only details I require are: Force Yes/No. Thanks, WT

Anybody have experience as this? Being a student and in my third year, unless I can find a full time job/or Kent opens up regs recruitment and I lo and behold get through, I'm going to have to look at this as an option. But I need to find out what sort of time scales it would operate as. I'm independent, and would be looking at going to a central county (Beds/Camb/Herts/TVP) or the Met. But how do forces react to this in your experience?

This was written by a regular officer from Derbyshire Constabulary who was responsible for training Specials. He's now retired so I hope he doesn't mind me reproducing it here.

Criminal law act section 3. Arrest if an offence is about to be committed. Can someone provide an example of when this applies. Is it for attempted offences? Although I thought they were offences in their own right! And plus only applies to indictable offences or either way.

Just after everyone’s views on this, I am a Detention officer, and today I was asked by the OIC to take a evidential sample of DNA. I refused (politely) to do this for a number of reasons - That as custody I feel it’s not right for me to be involved in the collection of evidence - That the relevant section of PACE states I can take a sample of DNA for speculative search of the fingerprint database. and this was NOT being used for a speculative search - And I was not sure that under PACE I could take a evidential sample, as other non-intimate samples are usually taken by a PC My c/o could not find anything that said I could defiantly do this, so I further declined to…

Hey guys I have a few questions as an American, mostly about gear. 1. I noticed that all the UK officers I've seen in pictures carry rigid cuffs, not chain or hinged cuffs. I also noticed you lot don’t seem to cuff as standard like we do. Is there a reason for the rigid cuffs? Normally those are only used here for problem inmates. I say inmates as a regular officer wouldn’t carry them over here, they would be for courts and corrections. 2. Are your more rural departments equipped differently than the urban units? (again if you can divulge) I understand urban UK policing as very different from urban US policing, but view the rural officer as needing all the tools possib…

Anyone got any idea what this is or what it's purpose is? Apparently our force now has one - aside from a couple of Specials appointed by ACPO (??) to meet with the CC every 6 weeks to voice the collective concerns of the Special constabulary, I'm not entitrely sure what it is, what it does or indeed what effect it will have. As it's all been arranged by ACPO I guess it must be a nationwide thing, can anyone enlighten me? (the email I received telling me all about it only mentioned the 6 weekly meetings - which I assumed was the kind of thing our cheif officer undertook anyway)
