I was thinking earlier, would your employer be allowed to hire you, as a Special Constable, if they wanted you to work for them as a police officer for an event or something? For example, say your company was holiding a fund-raising event or something and they wanted a police officer there. Or, say if the alarm wouldn't set on an office building or shop and they wanted someone to stay on site to guard the premises. I guess it would be a bit similar to the ESP scheme as your regular employer would be giving you time / remuneration for police work - just they would be wanting the police work to specifically be for their benefit.

It was in the news that convicted killer, Luke Mitchell, underwent a lie detector in prison to try prove his innocence: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-21016227 What if the lie detector showed that he believed he didn't do it? And ultimately, should lie detectors be allowed in the English and Welsh/Scottish legal system?

Or would that be a gigantic conflict of interest?

I need to do the bleep test and I've got tonsillitis I have gone running a few times and can barely manage a few minutes, I've also got a really bad cough. I have noticed in the media lately an increase in assaults on police. Headlines such as, "Mob of 17 beat up police officer"and "off duty police officer murdered and the like, This got me wondering, could it be that the constant attack on police form media such as Daily Mail and the Guardian and that current attack from the government and what would seem the sheer contempt shown by them towards the police somehow given certain members of the public an implied sense of justification for these acts. I don't know about some of you but the constant attack is really starting to grind me down. Top this off with the fact that some chief officers are think that they are worth an…

Hi all, Just found out that my force is to introduce a compulsory level three certification for all new starters. Which I guess means they will all need A-Levels to some degree (for Windsor Report). Do you know if this requirement will also be for serving specials and Staff too or just externals applicants? I know it seems force specific but I'm seeing if anyone knows anymore from a nation-wide perspective. Thank you Timtim

I know this is very force specific but what was the schedule of your specials training? Was it weekends? Evenings? Once a week?

Hi all, I read somewhere today that it has been approved to reduce starting pay. I am in the final interview stages of recruitment and am currently a Special. When will the new pay scale start? Thanks. Nick.

I apologise if anyone was offended. I was not having a dig at any Officers or PCSO's. I know these personally but was only saying that the fact they stated on the radio they was NOT ALLOWED to leave the station to attend jobs due to H&S is not a good thing. My point was if its H&S then why would every other job still be going? surely the Police should be more active then wardens. I dont want to debate about this but its abit worrying that snow can stop a service. ( not response of course.) Thank you and Sorry if I offended anyone, it was not meant to offend.

So today in my lovely City Centre the Police decided not to have anyone out of the station attending jobs mostly PCSO's due to the weather conditions... Surely a Emergency service should not stop due to snow fall... Found it very annoying as we had to attend all there jobs pretty much.
