Becoming a regular police officer has been my ambition since I was around 7. I'm now 21 and still looking to chase the dream. My only problem is for the last several years, my local constabulary hasn't been taking on regular officers straight out of civvi street (not that I've been aware of). So I'm looking at two options and need advice on the best route: 1) Become a special and volunteer for a minimum of 2 years and then see if I can become a regular from that. Has anyone done this before? I read the training specials receive is different from regular officers and some training may need to be retaken. It's not a transition that happens quickly and you may have to wait…

Im looking for a list of medals that can be awared to Police officers. I've tried wikipedia but to no avail. Im aware of the various jubilee medals, the george cross and the queens police medal. Are there any others? They don't have to be Police specific, but ones that can be won by the Police if deemed necessary. The george cross is the obvious example of this, as in it can be awarded to anyone, police, military, civil etc. Lastly, any links to Police officers earning medals of such nature? I'm aware of the George cross for PC Gledhill when he was shot at in pursuit of an armed gang, and the officer who protected Princess Anne during the attempted kidnapping. Another …

Has anyone had the experiance of using both of these duty recording systems? Which did you prefer? It would appear from my research that Duty sheet has just about got the market lead by some margin.

Bit of a wierd topic but seeing as its the season why not. (We also havent seen a story thread for a while) I recently watched Traffic cops were the PC was assaulted (with serious injuries) and I wanted to see if people would like to share their experiences of TRUE COMRADERY that can only be seen in the Job we do ! (Excluding armed forces) Please stay on topic and no bickering!

Ok I'm not going to lie, I'm 21 and I still live at home with my dad. He is not at all supportive of my ambition to join the police as a regular or a special. He insists before I join I should move out of his house otherwise he will end up with a brick through his window as a result of my police work. He is afraid it will effect his reputation and social life at the local pub and nobody will talk to him because his son is a police officer. I don't currently own my own vehicle so I would be relying on him for a short time to get me to interviews and such, which of course he won't because he doesn't want me joining. I've heard no end to reasons why I shouldn't...for exampl…

I have been watching a few of these videos of youtube recently of these irritating people with megaphones that wont shut up and go away... ..They make it difficult to deal with them, as some of them are quite wise when it comes to the law and know how to make it difficult to PND or arrest ect... However, I was having a good think, and was thinking - Could you consider using S127 of the Communications Act? '(1)A person is guilty of an offence if he— (a)sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or (b)causes any such message or matter to be so sent. …

Howdy all Just after some opinions on various career progression routes and see what people's thoughts are and how it's working elsewhere in the Country. Where I am the likelihood of getting so much as your stripes is pretty much nil for the next few years; we have so many people eligible for Acting and Temporary slots it's ridiculous - passing your exams now I would guess would mean a wait of at least 3-4 years. With courses, attachments and moves to other departments non-existent i'm becoming stale and a bit demoralised at the thought of another 5 years on Response. Now i'm not in a rush to climb the ranks, being both young and youngish in service, however when the ti…

This is a quite simpl question and applies to both those in the job and those training/applying etc........ Who knows you are a Police Officer?....or in the case of applicants , who knows that you are applying or training to become one? etc... Before , I for one told quite a lot of people and wasn't too fussed as to who I would share with but of late I have learnt my lesson and have decided to keep hush about it.... whoever needs to know can know , whoever doesn't .... doesn't. As it seems if some people know , it either puts them off you or you make enemies...sometimes enemies out of "friends".

I've been watching some episodes of Coppers (thanks to YouTube), and noticed that many different police services have now replaced their white shirts and ties with black T-shirt style tops. Is this becoming standard throughout the UK, or are there still some districts that are keeping the white shirts?

I've noticed that the new CC for Scotland has blue crowns on his shoulder. If I'm correct the commissioners of the met also use blue crowns. Is this simply for making it easy to distinguish from, say, commanders or is there some significance to the colour? I may be using bad search terms but I can't find an explicit reference to blue crowns in google.
