It is with sadness that I announce the death of Karen B after a long and brave battle against illness. Karen was 28yrs old. Karen was dedicated to serving the public in her role as a member of the Force Contact team and also as a Special Constable. She was a friend to many West Midlands Police colleagues. She worked most recently in Solihull and previously in Birmingham at Aston and Sutton Coldfield Police Stations.

Quite often you can get old kit on ebay, do you think ebay should tighten the rules on police uniform and kit? I have reported items in the past that have been stated as obsolete but are actually still current issue, like a dyfed-powys police warrant card holder. The current policies are here: http://pages.ebay.co...ies/police.html I would quote the policy but it takes up loads of your screen, so have a read. The reason I ask if the rules should be tightened is because I keep finding items on there (in the suggestions box) like this: http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_1194wt_1186 Which is a ID Card holder for SIA licences, with a police style badge with crown, but with a li…

Without wishing to portray an image of being all bitter and twisted, I thought this would be better coming from myself before the wheels of the rumour mill start turning. In the very early part of 2012 (early Feb if memory serves) I was selected for re-vetting. In March of this year, I was informed that I had a Reg 15 notice against me. I was being investigated by PSD having 'failed' re-vetting. I hadn't declared a CCJ that I didn't know I had. Yep, you heard me, I had not declared a CCJ that I did not know I had! Quite how I am supposed to declare something of which I had no knowledge I've not yet been able to work out. so if anyone knows the answer to the question of…

Hi everyone, Sorry if this topic is a repetition of many threads on this forum and please do direct me to appropriate threads if so. I'm thinking about the police as a career. It was something I thought about many years ago, but I got a little scared of the idea of not having some formal quals and work experience under my belt, so I went to university and have worked since then. I've come back around to the idea of joining as I am in a job now which adequately meets my current circumstances, however, it offers few levels for progression without further study (and further cost). What with all the doom and gloom of the cuts to pensions, changes to the retirement age etc,…

On a day out yesterday with the wife we were travelling down a major motorway and the car in front was drifting from the hard shoulder into lane 2 with no indication and really poor driving. Wife phones old bill and many miles later car is stopped and later when i had to give a statement i was told the driver was 5 times the limit, no insurance, no licence and TWOC. I would dearly love them to lock him up for a reasonable time if he can do that in the middle of the afternoon on a very busy motorway am i being harsh or what does anyone else think?

Just downloaded an app called `XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX` on my android phone. There is a free version which is really good, but the paid version is worth the small fee (69p i think). It has really helped me learn my police definitions. I found it in the Google Play store, I definately recommend it.

Hello All, I wanted to create this thread to get some advice, I'm new in to job hunting, and especially in the forensics field I'm aware it's difficult to get a job as a fresh graduate. Is there anyone here who specializes in this field that can give some insight in to how they have come about to get a job? or any recommendations on how to search for one? At the moment I will be finishing my degree for Forensic Computing and going to be a certified hacking forensic investigator (provided by EC-Council). Thanks in advance, Gramzon I will list some of the websites I've come across, may be of help to some others: CW Jobs Job Seekers Prospects.ac.uk Totaljobs.co…

I was just thinking about the people I have dealt with since I started doing this and even though I'm on a fairly middle class Met borough I dunno if others feel the same way.. I do a lot of hours on the (In my opinion) most confrontational element of borough policing - Town centre night time licenced premises and their punters. I've arrested literally 100 people and seen 200 arrested probably and spent hours with each of them.. of those 300 I'd say 30 of them were horrible scumbags and the rest were generally normal to normalish people who had pretty serious issues or had made a stupid mistake. I make a point of being reasonable to everyone and I'll always give a seco…

http://uk.reuters.co...er&dlvrit=59196 Much furore on twitter about this, apparently he handed the keys to his cab to a police officer and then jumped off the bridge into the River Thames. I am curious to know which part of the Public Order Act gives grounds for his arrest?

Here is a question I have when comparing tactics used by US police and UK police... America (Bay area, San Francisco) Called to a theft in progress at 3am. 4 units are called but we are first on scene by a good minute. Sirens used only once at a busy intersection when crossing on red, otherwise no sirens. When turning into the street where the theft if occurring, all roof bar lights and car lights turned off and engine speed kept low. We creep up to the scene and the two men are spotted from a distance. Exit vehicle quietly. Men didn't even hear us approach. Compare that to... Lots of UK examples (one in particular) Called to a burglary in progress, reported by ADT. …

Hi, I recently applied to the SC and have my assessment day soon. However I have also been offered a suumer-time job over in Australia which will require me to be out there for 4-6 months depending on the contract... I am wondering if anyone can tell me whether or not (if I am successful at the assessment and furture stages) I would be able to take 4 months out of being a SC? Obviously I realise I wouldnt be completing my required hours per month but want to know if theres any way this will be possible without having to quit or not to go to Aus?... Thanks

Hi all, this is my first post!!! I am interested in joining and I am waiting for the recruitment freeze to be lifted before applying. I have had a good look around to make sure this is not replicated elsewhere and I couldn't find anything so hopefully I'm not committing the cardinal forum sin of asking the same question repeatedly!! I don't know if it is different in various forces but I was hoping someone could tell me how the hours system works? In the TA for example you have a drill night that is the same day/time every week so you know when to make yourself available. Is there a similar system with Special Constables? Do you get allocated a shift and then you work …
