A while back I saw a book in the nick called the 'Acting Sergeant's Handbook'. Well, now I need it I can't find it anywhere and one PC I spoke to said he last saw a copy at a certain nick, but I've been there and can't find it anywhere. I've googled it and can't find it either; IIRC it did appear to be old (maybe early 90's). Does anyone else here know where I can get a copy? Thanks

Before I start I already know that the police service have their own medics who are police officers trained in first aid (not sure to what level) to aid police officers and civilians in public order situations etc. Would anybody see any need for actual ambulance staff on the “frontline” with the police, that way you have a medic trained as a paramedic, EMT/ECA etc that have been trained and keep their skills up to date on a daily basis because they already work within that field either nhs or private. If they undertook similar training in public order as officers do but obviously they don’t get all the equipment police do. Say for example they wear public order clothing…

Does anyone know when we get told the date of our exam? I've just been told 'week beginning 22nd October 2012' on my exam notice, but no actual date yet.

During my service, I spent quite a bit of time (between doing operational duties) assisting HR/Recruiting and doing presentation evenings, etc. I certainly found that I was much better placed to answer questions and give advice to potential SC applicants than my regular counterparts. Do you think that there should be a/some dedicated officer/s within your own force who deal with this sort of thing? Perhaps an officer who is currently 'none-operational' for some reason and who has experience in this field? What does your force currently do? Is it adequate?

After watching the program with about the pickpockets in London and seeing the use of the facial recognition software, I had an idea. What if similar software was to be utilised by police, in places such as train stations, which linked to the PNC in a way that scans the persons face and if it matches a persons face who is, for example, currently wanted on warrant. The software then alerts the control room for that police force/ force area with the details of the person, so that the info can be disseminated to the relavent officers. I know that there are probably many many flaws and issues with this idea, but opinions and criticisms are welcome.

Okay, first off from the video it's quite clear to me there is no ''stomp.'' It looks to me like the officer simply picks his foot up and puts it down again near the guys face to reset his balance. In the slow motion clip (which the youtuber uploaded to highlight the stomp) you can see the officers foot doesn't make any contact with the man's head and the man's head doesn't move at all when his foot has come down. I would've thought any rational person would be able to see this, but no, it seems people are so blinded by hatred for the police they criticise officers even when their own evidence contradicts their accusations. It's depressing to see the amount of hits this …

Having just had the bad news about redundancy delivered to me today, I was wondering how other Specials who are\have been in the same position had coped? i.e. looking for jobs \ fulfilling your commitment. On the plus side I see it as a positive time to change my direction. If there is anyone who knows of any Microsoft.net \ SQL development roles \ with management, let me know!

I was with a colleague in the car when my colleagues mobile phone started to ring, unfortunately my colleague picked up the call as the caller was a police officer he was expecting a call from in connection with an enquiry, suddenly to our surprise the vehicle behind us turned on blue lights and we were signalled to stop (unmarked traffic car). We stopped and got out the car and spoke to the officer who was a traffic police officer, immediately the officer uttered the usual caution. My colleague was then issued with a £60 3 points fixed penalty ticket, the officer issuing the ticket used a pda and as part of the process the officer insisted on taking a photograph of my …

Hi all i am looking for a little feedback and input on the following question. under ESPP (employer supported policing programe) i beleive a number of forces who employ serving sc's as police staff ie comms front office soco etc specials can and have been deployed from thier staff role to assist in major incidents ie scene preservation , public order and so what i am exploring is if an sc is in a position where staffing levels in thier police staff role allow for them to take toil (time off in lieu) rather than taking the toil but but re deploy on the area they work as an sc again under the ESPP. obviously if its only an hour or 2 then may not be beneficial …

This is still raging on twitter, he deleted the tweet but that was too late as others had already retweeted it and taken screenshots of what he said about police reform. http://www.ukpolicing.info/Portals/0/NewsServer.aspx?ID=2012 What do you think, were his comments 'tongue in cheek' or is his apocalyptic tweet on police reform actually true?
