We've all been there...long night shift...driving around at 4 am after standing out in the cold watching drunks throw up and being asked if someone can pee in your hat. You're crewed with someone who maybe doesn't like specials, you or just isn't talkative in general. You know some things about their life; they have a kid/partner/are divorced/used to do *insert job here but aside from that there's little conversation, but you want to make some. Perhaps you're rubbish at small talk (like myself) or lack confidence, through being new or otherwise. We've all been there, but what sort of questions do you ask, or would you ask, to make small talk and start a proper conversati…

This popped into my mind yesterday when I woke up to find my car covered in snow, I then spent the next couple of minutes using a soft broom to push all of the snow off my car before heading to work only to notice that no one had done the same, am I mistaken in thinking that driving with a large amount of snow on your vehicle is an offence? Snow, although soft and fluffy most of the time, can be dangerous, especially when driving at speed, all it takes is for the wind to push a huge chunk off of someone's roof and have it flying behind them, either onto another vehicle (probably following too close if it does) or just scares the hell out of a driver behind who then panic…

Having looked at a thread discussing powers of a Constable from E&W in Northern Ireland I have been thinking : What are the powers/juristiction say across the channel? If something occurs in the Channel Tunnel or a ferry from Dover to Calais , say? or even if someone is absconding and using these methods of transport? What happens?

I don't know why but it was a random question which popped into my head whilst reading a Criminal Psychology text.... Is it possible to become a Police Officer if you have been "sectioned" or detained under the Mental Health Act? or are you banned? or as matter of fact.... is there any job out there that you can't do at all with this history? and how would they know? seeing as it only comes up on your medical history and not a Criminal Record?

Hi there! Not sure if this topic has been covered, did a quick search and couldn't find anything but if it has I apologise. Basically I just wanted to find out how easy it for people to be a student and a SC at the same time and how you balance the two? I know this may probably seem trivial to those with full-time jobs but I've never had a full-time job so any tips on how to balance day-to-day life with being a SC will be very helpful! I'm currently a first year Criminology student at a university in London and I'm also in the recruitment process for the MSC (Day 2 in a couple weeks ). If anyone out there could just give me some general info of how they juggle the tw…

Hi All, Just curious as to people reactions when you tell them your a PC/SC or applying to become one? I've recently applied to the Police and at the Assessment Stage (SC) and I get some mixed reactions when I tell people...I get "Why do you want to do that?" or people think of you differently, or go very "cagey"...

Hi Colleague of mine got a big case of Verbal at work today, he got really annoyed and called the Police when it got personal about the colour of his hair.. What I'd like to know, especially from serving officers is, where do YOU draw the line with people being verbally abusive. For instance, I will pretty much ignore it until the C word comes out. But others may be more/less tolerable. Thanks

Hi all, ran a forum search and couldn't find anything... Mods - If this thread is sensitive etc etc due to the possibility of it being "operational" please remove it as I do not wish to break rules :D So, the PNB. I was wondering with regards to SCs the best way to add entries, I believe Regs require to have to account for every day, even if they are on annual leave/ rest/ sick and make an appropriate entry. Is this the same for SCs? Seems a lil silly considering that most of our entries would "Off Duty". Cheers Jake

This is interesting, I have heard rumours about this and a statement has just been released by the Constables Chairman; https://www.policeconstables.org/about-us/about-the-committee/a-message-from-the-chair/a-message-from-the-chair

Loads of questions about the restrictions on powers based on geographical jurisdiction: As Specials (and I assume regulars also), we have our powers granted by the office of constable for use in England and Wales. For the mutual aid request for Northern Ireland G8 meetings, what happens then? Is it just a Chief Constable authorisation, or are large numbers of officers "attested" for a temporary period? What happens in NI when there are cross border incidents into the Republic of Ireland? Why couldn't an officer be attested in both regions? The paying force would obviously be the priority and basic manners would dictate that a cross border arrest would have a 'co…

At custody, can you use a range of disposal options at the same time for two offences. I.E Caution and PND or Charge and Caution or Charge and NFA or Caution and NFA or DCB and Caution or DCB and Charge Or is it best practice to charge or caution for the whole array of offences in the same way, removing the offences no longer necessary?

So for those of us who took our Part 1 last week, our Part 2 at the end of the year will be the last! I'm not sure what will happen if you fail it... move onto the work-based scehem I guess? Only thing that worries me is that after successful completion of the work-based assessment your promotion is made substantive; I was planning on 'banking' Part 1 and 2 and not applying for a promotion board for quite some time. Is this going to mean once you're in the Sgt's process, if successful you're going to be promoted and there won't be any ability to bank your quals and sit on them until such time as you want the stripes? Secondly..... where are these job opportunities going…
