Today I had to do my OST resit for my day job role in custody. Having completed the standard 5.4 bleep test before completing the days training the Instructor (whom is not a wind up merchant etc) stated that there was talk of increasing the pass rate for the test to 8.0. Has anyone else heard of this? I did ask him for further info but he said that he did not know and that he had simply been told this by a member of management.

I'm looking for some inspiration to help me plan a few operations / events in my local area. I have an ASB type event planned in already, there is also an evening focusing on Traffic offences. What other types of events do you run / have you attended that were different or interesting? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. I have seem a really good post before with some ideas, however I can't find it! Thanks, Will

Do you think the public perception / image of the police has declined in recent years? If so, what would you say were the main reasons? Do you think that the public now have a better police force than they had years ago? If so, how do you think it has improved? Before you answer, please consider these case scenarios: A lone 87 year old domestic burglary victim in 1987. An almost immediate response from local police, one officer stayed with the victim giving reassurance, takes statement and remains until the arrival of SOCO, then assists in finding suitable tradesperson to secure point of entry. The other officer does door-to-door enquiries. The usual enquiries a…

Well, after hitting 10 years service this week, I've made the very difficult decision to call time on my service in the police. I have been dwelling on it for some time, but despite that it feels odd that I've actually gone and done it. I always regarded myself as a career Special - up until just a couple of years ago I saw myself aiming for 20 or 30 years service. The time I've had in the Specials has been nothing short of amazing, and regardless of any moans that some including myself may have on here about policing, if any of you reading this aren't Specials and are considering joining then you need to just do it. It's given me so much life experience, and consider…

Hey all! Do we have any short specials in the forum? Which forces are you applying to and what stage of recruitment are you currently in. I'm applying for the MET and am 5'4" & 18 years old, can anyone beat that?

Found this video on YouTube. It's from a UK Police show on the BBC but I certainly haven't seen it before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgFhr9hyD5o WARNING; It is graphic and shows an officer being hurt. This acts a good reminder how things can quickly change and gives you something to think about if you find yourself in similar circumstances.

I am almost set to start training and I fancy myself becoming a reg , hopefully joining CID one day Now I know my Borough allows Permanant Attachments to CID (probably when you become IPS) Can I ask.... what is CID like? and what kind of things could you expect to get stuck into when you're on an attachment with CID as a Special? Any general insight? Do you actually get to go out there and help on observations , surveillance , scenes etc etc as I know CID often let PCs (who aren't qualified in being a Detective) to do a lot of stuff or will I just be sitting around filing and drinking tea.... or making it If it helps , Im with the Met (for any force specific info)

Just for afew shift's! And if so isit hard to get help to do this or would it be "Your a special, stay on you SNT" kind of thing. Any reply's on experience with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So tomorrow is the day!. I've completed all my training/inductions and I am booked on duty tomorrow for my first ever shift. I am going out with response (aligned with their shift pattern all week as I am off work). I am excited obviously! Any advice on how to approach it and how to ensure I make a good first impression? Thanks in advance!

Hey! I am an 18yr old A-level student currently undergoing training with the MET. I was curious to know if there are any students at a similar age to me and in which force. As for more experienced officers, how would you react to a special who is 18 years of age. Also it would be interesting to know if small height would be an issue. Typed from iPhone so excuse me if there are silly errors.
