Hello everyone. Being an avid reader of this web site and a keen volunteer police officer, I have noticed that certain questions frequently pop up on this site. These are typically genuine questions from either prospective or new recruits and we, being helpful, go ahead and answer them. However sometimes the answers we give are not entirely comprehensive due to the time it takes to pass on the information and sometimes by searching posts information can be out of date. So I present to you all the Special constabulary Wiki which is designed to solve this problem by taking information freely available in the public domain, on this forum and other web sites to be the mos…

Hi everyone, I've been reading a few posts about how some officers think some Specials are excellent but some are liabilities. What makes a special a bad special though? Just be good to hear people's experiences of bad ones and what they perceive to be bad?... Cheers.

Hi guys, I was wondering whether its a responsibility of a police officer to do something about an incident they have just seen or is about to happen in front of them when off duty. Example being, if a special was off duty, out with some friends walking home or anything, and he/she sees something, do they have the powers and responsibility to do something about it? If so, what are they meant to do? Carry on with normal procedures or detain the suspects and call for the nearest officers on duty to take over?

I was speaking to a colleague who I haven't seen for some time about other people from our recruitment intake two years ago. I've realised that out of an intake of 20 specials only 7 remain. Is this level of officer retention 'normal' compared to other forces? 3 have taken up internal vacancies i.e PCSOs 2 left before our initial training finished 5 have left since training 3 were asked to leave 7 remain Is this due to poor officer expectations/recruitment/training/treatment. In my LPU I have always been trated very well by regs and specials alike, so I can't see that reason applying from my point of view. Any thoughts or similar perceptions?

I have my fitness test next wednesday for the role of a police support officer with Surrey Police at Surrey's headquarters Guildford. I was just wondering if anyone knew if I were to be tested on my own or if there would be a group of us tested together?

I was watching a documentary last night called One mile away. It documents the attempt of a group of young men from two rival gangs to call a truce between the gangs. The second half of the documentary was heavily focused on police relations between ethnic minorities and police actions during the riots. I was wandering if anyone else had seen the film, and if so what are your thoughts on it? specifically how it portrays the police.http://onemileaway.co.uk/about

Hello there. I am not a police officer so need some legal advice. I bought a fancy dress outfit, well not quite fancy dress. It comprises of police tunic, over coat, shirt, tie and old custodian helmet all from the 1970's era because I was going to a fancy dress party, I tend to put a lot off effort in to my outfits. Its all genuine ex-police issue, non of it is modern at all. I also made a copy of a 70's warrant card. (an obvious fake) On the night I was complimented by a police officer on my effort and accuracy. After the night I put it all into a box under my bed for any future parties. The other week I dusted of the over coat due to the bad weather, it is the warmest…

After reading this 'interesting' article, and noticing that the man was charged with a number of felonys including 'Assault on a Police canine', I was wondering whether the UK has a law in place that can convict people that harm police dogs. The question also applies to police horses and other non-human police animals (if you can think of any!) The US charge is completely unheard of to me, I hope there is some legislation in place that protects police dog/horses to some extent!

I've seen this book on Google Play for £16.25 and WHSmith for £21.99. My question is as a PC which format of the book would be more useful on a daily basis? I already use the iPlod iOS app in case anyone suggests it. Thanks

How do you all go about doing this? I've been told to 'leave them to it and let them walk otherwise one of you could trip and face plant the floor' but ive been told by others 'hook arm in arm and go down the stairs sideways'. Obviously for more serious offences the worry is that they'll make off. I'm thinking back to back cuffing. thanks everyone.

Hello! Title says it all, really. What do you consider one of your proudest moments of policing which you have been involved in? I'd say mine was policing the Olympics in London.
