Hi All, Long time lurker here and had a question I'm sure the forum can answer. I was recently a victim of crime and had a very positive experience with the police response. A mixture of rapid arrival, local knowledge of troublesome properties and thorough multiple searches for the suspect eventually resulted in a confession for the crime. Unfortunately due to various reasons a prosecution wasn't possible and it wasn't the crime of the century. However I felt the determination of the officers who attended went beyond what I was expecting and they spent a considerable amount of time doing their best to keep pressing to find the person responsible. I felt they could h…

This will sound like a foolish Q but I want to know...it's interesting to know and I cannot actually point out where the offence lies in this or even where a potential disciplinary offence with PSD would lie!! : If you are a Police Officer and you may have a mate or know somebody who is a criminal defence lawyer... If you were to have a deal where for each person (in general...not just your suspects..) that you pass onto him for legal rep (be it paid , legal aid etc...) you will get paid a cut/comission for it. Is this illegal? Has a criminal or disciplinary offence been committed. and as an additional scenario.. lets say what if you even told the suspect that you (or a…

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/disciplinary_cases_by_ocu_concer#comment-26581 if you follow the link to a freedom of information website you'll see a load of requests for information about specials in a number of counties but mostly METland. He seems to think there's a conspiracy involving TESCO and the police service...fruit loop.

I'm currently waiting to start my training in August to be a special constable, quick question to anyone who can answer, ponytails! Are they allowed? I've been driving myself mad trying to put my long and slippery hair into a bun for ages and I can't do it! I'm sure I've seen many women in the force with ponytails but I wasn't sure about the set rules. the only problem I can come across with a pony is the obvious hair-pulling scenario. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, Just wondering if you can point me in the direction of any useful sites/resources which I could print out, cut up and then stick in my PNB or pockets when I'm out and about, I've got the 27 questions & necessity criteria but was wondering if you had any other good print outs or apps (for BlackBerry) which will help me out and about on duty.. Cheers

The issue of a SC's private insurance, and using your own car while travelling to and from duty, came up in an RTC training session this weekend. Are SC's supposed to have Business Use on their private car insurance policy? Reason I ask is that I get attested as a SC in September, and my car insurance is due for renewal this month. Adding Business Use adds £45 to my premium. Does anyone else have Business Use on their car insurance for this reason?

Hi folks, A number of forces across the country will be taking part in #specialshour on twitter from 7pm on Friday 14th June. The aim is to highlight the positive contributions that special constables makes to their communities whether they perform duties in neighbourhood, response or specialist roles. It's hoped the hour, led by Durham, will show the country who specials are and the valuable contribution we make. All specials are welcome to join in subject to their forces media policies. Rgds, Bigcop

Has it ever happened to you? In the past I went to a job at my crewmate's house (see here http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?/topic/126544-really-unlikely-scenarios/?p=2199808) but tonight for the first time ever I got sent to my own house. It was not an actual crime and there were no issues with me attending, just felt rather odd talking to my mrs and writing down the details in my PNB :D

Saw this on another forum: Some interesting 'advice' being offered in a magazine to the military lads who will have to endure a sweltering parade (Trooping the Colour) in intense heat next weekend, if the forecasts are to be believed. - wear a sleeveless cotton vest beneath the shirt to try and keep air circulating - wear some thick socks so that the feet sweat out some of the excess produced - wiggle the toes constantly whilst standing still - try and stretch calf muscles when standing to attention - place a flannel on the top of the head beneath the busby hat to try and absorb sweat from the scalp - try and drink one-and-a-half to two pints of water in the hour b…
