Afternoon chaps. Sorry I haven't been around for a while, I've been keeping myself busy since I was last unsuccessful at the assessment centre- but I'm back! After just sending of my application on Friday, I have now been informed that I have passed the initial paper sift with South Yorkshire Police. Positive news on such a rainy day! Hope you're all well- CR8623.

I've seen varying different posts about what is covered under your expenses by various forces, so what is it for yours? I've just started my training and been told I'm only eligible for travel costs to the force border. Interestingly enough there are places within the force border which one could legitimately claim double the amount It costs me...but as is procedure. I hear some forces get food as expenses?!

Following on from somebodies People v Banks post, I clicked into two related videos. First video: Drawing his Taser at such an early stage antagonised things somewhat and he didn't look like he had sufficient clearance anyway without catching his colleague. If it was just as a threat it seemed to wind things up even more. Towards the end I was screaming to myself: get your spray ready! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RVaPAxqNYaU

Has anyone ever been made to feel inferior or heard others be talked about over the use of assistance shouts, emergency affray alarms. It is obvious danger means different things to different people, different people have different abilities and circumstances are always different with more officers on scene; which means no one ever sees it from the initial officers eyes. I.E. Bob always pushes his button even if he's just tapped on the arm! I have started hear about an officer who avoids confrontation and officers are shying away from him.

Hi all. I recently and stupidly got into a bit of trouble and I'm seeking some advice. Me and some friends were caught in possession of a tiny amount of ecstasy (half a pill each) and the police officers confiscated it, checked our records but didn't arrest us because we had clean records. They took our numbers up and rang us yesterday saying we have to attend individual interviews. I done some research and read in some places that I have the right to leave an interview under caution or even not attend it. However the officer said I would be arrested if I didn't attend. Is this an interview under caution? What should I expect, it's in my best interest for this to not go…

Do you find that when double crewed many incidents turn into bad cop good cop. Any stories? I have often found this is normally always the case with me taking both good and bad cop in equal amounts. One instance was a MOP taking his top of and storming towards me, I then drew PAVA, he then talked to colleague calmly, turned back to me and went to punch me, again drew my PAVA and he then went to chat to my colleague. Upon taking him to custody, he still disliked me, yet you would have thought my colleague was his best friend. This is my best example of bad cop and to be there the funniest.

Please don't take this as antagonism, I'm just trying to understand how people who support and are involved in law enforcement think and feel. We typically look at violence as a negative act, yet the police are among the biggest perpetrators of it. If anyone who does not hold a badge takes an individual away by force, it is called kidnapping. Yet an arrest is viewed as a positive by the majority of the population. In terms of the acts committed (rationalisation for them aside), this is a very violent way to conduct one's self. The same is true of the force used to subdue a person. As someone who has never so much as hit another person (sans play fighting as a kid), I si…

Being a Polis, I am often considered a fountain of knowledge amongst friends, but today I'm stuck. Can you get done for speeding whilst riding a horse? Along comes Shogy 1 with a definitive answer...

Has anyone any experience of seizing mobile phones for evidence when you have witnessed then film on it? (This would be a bystander)

Not sure if this is the right place...apologise if it is not. At college I was having a conversation with my mate who is 17 and has recently gotten a job at a fast food restaurant as part time. Has been working there for about two weeks if not three. Last Friday he asked me if there was any limit to the amount of hours that he was allowed to work. He asked me if there were any limits (regarding hours) to working as a 17 year old. I tried to do some research on it and found a piece of legislation which stated a child can work from 7 till 7 for no more than 3 hours on a school night. I cannot be 100% sure of this as I Sean to again be filing to find which act this is und…

Hioo everyone or no one! I am 18 and currently going through the process of applying and doing interviews for engineering firms like Airbus, GKN and Babcock. My brother was doing the same until he changed course and decided he wanted to be in the police force and to start as a special constable. I feel now that i am not interested in engineering anymore like him! The thing is..... He thought of doing this way before i had this feeling. And everyone now thinks i am copying him but i genuinely want to go for being a police special now as it does interest me and i can see myself one day having a career in the police force. Its a disaster. I havent spoken to my parents ab…

Hi all, With the budget restraints it can be hard to get the extra training that you want, especially if there is not necessarily a quantifiable benefit to your force in paying for extra training for specials. My question, would you be prepared to pay (either a part contribution or full cost) to have extra training to enable you to get involved in extra roles as a special? For example, public order training, taser, advanced driving, etc. And how many wouldn't out of principle rather than cost?

I have not gone force specific with this one as I'd like a general opinion really, I am in the third stage of applying to Derbyshire as a PC and was wondering what peoples view on Derbyshire Police is? Has anyone worked for Derbyshire before transferring? Are they a good force to work for with good training? Are there plenty of opportunities? and anything else you can say about the force in general?? The reason I ask is because I have applied straight from college, but I live in Manchester. I'm at the final stage with GMP for the Specials but when the opportunity to get straight in as PC with Derbyshire came up I was straight on the website. However, the Assessment d…

There's clothing now available to resist electroshock weapons. Whilst this, reputable, manufacturer restricts its garments to the law enforcement community there are many, many more online who will sell to anybody. It just looks like normal clothing and it'll only be a matter of time before this kind of technology is integrated into normal clothing.

Learned interesting information theres Two types of checks the Police may conduct. Either Police vetting check Or national security check. Technically I could pass national secuity vetting yet may never pass police vetting which is the same level of check but different criteria.
