So tonight I partnered up with a L/CPL from the RMP for some town center duties. Obviously his focus was dealing with drunken and troublesome Squaddies, but I was amazed at how many serviceman stopped him to chat, as I didn't know our town had so many coming out to drink. They seemed to show them alot more respect when speaking to them I found. Nearly everyone was pretty amazed to see them out I think, We had some trouble with members of the public and he also stepped in to assist with that too, It's incredibly rare to have RMP support with us, just wondered how often this goes on? and what are your thoughts?

This guy is apparently a special constable, and has come up with this idea. Thoughts? http://instantiatorgratification.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/hack-highlight-2-mobile-data-terminal-20.html

I'm currently applying for jobs, nothing in particular, just need something for a few months between uni. Anyway, we obviously have learned new skills from being in the specials and experienced things most people haven't, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to make the most of this and make it stand out. I've mentioned how its given me excellent communication skills and organisation and leadership etc, anyone have any examples of how they made it stand out?

Hi All, I've been a special for 4 months now and i am finding that my knowledge is letting me down somewhat. I just wondered what other people use/had used for reference and what recommendations for books everybody had? I did have a search of the forums, but couldnt seem to find anything recent. Anybody used this? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackstones-Handbook-Policing-Students-2013/dp/0199658080/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_0? Cheers, Jack

Hey Guys, Curiosity has got me here, Yesterday there was a small van (think Vauxhall Combo) with a rental logo on the sides, parked at one end of a bridge going over the M1. Over the middle lane Northbound (And South) was a tripod, a CCTV type camera, and a bunch of wires going to a yellow box on the bridge. So if it's only aimed at one lane, and looks like a CCTV camera, it's unlikely to be speed (not that i need to worry about this as i wasn't speeding) Bit random.... , but curiosity has really got me wondering what it would be, or if indeed it is a form of camera that can monitor 3 lanes?

Hi there, I start my training for the MET this coming monday, and I just have a question about the off duty personal life. Bassically I'm a festival goer, I've bought a ticket to the good old Reading Festival back in December and I was simply wonder, are there any ristrictions on me going there? So in short really I'm just asking will I be able to still go to this festival once getting through training? Thanks!

Hi guys and girls so I passed my final weekend back at the end of April , and to date I have only done 1 shift on my neighbourhoods team (not through the lack of trying to sort a shift) , iv had to throw my self into the deep end and put my name down for events just to get some policing expirence ! I am trying to sort out shifts for June and I am meeting a brick wall ! It seems that a new pretty female sc is having more luck than me in having shifts (read in to that comment to get my point) I am becoming disheartened by it and gutted that I am as policing is all I have wanted to do. How easy do you find it to get a shift ? Or even help with development ? Any advice …

Hello, I just wanted to ask what is full beat uniform? Is it the normal Constable's uniform? Does that include the Tunic? Thank you.

Yesterday I visited the Suffolk show, where I saw several weird and wonderful 'police' vehicles like the tractor below. These included a all-terrain buggy and a Lotus which had been kitted out with a steering wheel games controller and a large screen so that visitors could play a racing game while sitting in it. Obviously these vehicles are a lot of fun, and they did a good job of drawing people into the police stands and getting them talking to the officers present. Although none of them are used for normal policing duties, they have been donated by the manufacturers and I'd imagine that the cost of having them is therefore very small. However, I wonder if they reall…

In a similar vein to another thread going at the moment, what experiences do people have senior ranks, particularly when it's not a planned one. Here's mine: I was in uniform but with a scruffy grey hoodie over the top. I had just come back from the shop and was sitting in the canteen with a couple of people eating, still with my hoody on. As we got up to leave, we opened the door to be confronted by a Chief Inspector and an Inspector, both in tunics. First words spoken by them were: 'Get back inside, you have a visitor' As I scrambled back inside, the new Chief Constable, who had started last week walked in. He went to shake my hand and introduce himself, at which po…

Could someone provide an insight into seizures at the roadside for a vehicle used in crime. i.e. Shoplifters with boot full of goods? Would the car be seized? Can this be done without a magistrate order or inspector approval. Anyone with experience on this?
