Just had to post to tell you all that I passed my fitness test...horaaaaayyy!! Its not as daunting as you may think, I am awful (and I mean awful) at running, so if you're worried, don't be. If I can do it, you definitely can! Two girls in our group failed on the strength test, but its really not too bad. I pushed 36kg and pulled 40kg. I'd say I have average muscles for a girl! Anyone else had/about to have theirs? How did you find it?

Quick question: what's the radio procedure when hailing another force is Airwave? Say, I'm a Met PC with the shoulder 123PY and I have to pop over the border into Kent to do an arrest enquiry. I have sent the CAD over but want to radio up to let Kent know that I'm on scene. How do you call up on the radio? "Kent Police receiving 123PY"? "Kent Police receiving 01-123PY"? Kent Police receiving Met Police 123PY"? Something else?

I've just had about 3 hours sleep in preparation for today, first day of my penultimate set and I'm very tired and grumpy so I need to whinge... With so many people wanting to become PCs, not even one or two nights a week as a special constable can prepare you for working a full shift pattern. I've done nearly a year of 4 on 4 off (about as good as it gets for shift patterns) and I feel like I've aged about 5 years. Yes I know I got my police staff shift allowance etc but it also kills off your social life and your health and wellbeing too. I'm very thankful at the end of the month I'm going back to 8-4 Mon to Fri. It's also put me off being a PC this side of being 30, I…

What did everyone where to the special's interview? As much as I hate them, is a tie a must where?

Id be interested to start a discussion as to how people think public order policing could be improved from a police point of.view. We often hear of people complaining whilst on aid, but little seems to be done no matter what goes on the debrief forms... Lets hear some of the problems and any potential solutions...

PACE has been around for nearly 30 years and charged and detained children continue to languish in police cells rather than being removed to LA accommodation. Just about every report of the Inspectorate raises this. My sympathy is with custody officers being frustrated in their attempts to comply with the law. Initial research can be found at www.youthjusticematters.info but there will be much more in the next month or so. With 17 year olds now in the process of being re-defined as juveniles it may also be the case that they will fall within the ambit of section 38. AA schemes delivered by vol orgs do not help cos they may be good AAs but they have no interest or aut…

I need the slightest of correction to be sure of getting the 20/20 line on the opticians chart, really just for letters QODRB (I get the line above no problem without correction). I don't wear glasses at the moment, but if I wear them at the medical, will I have to wear them on duty?

A former friend of mine is (apparently) in the recruitment process to be a SC. I know that they took lots of doorstep loans and ran up various debts in another persons name (the other person never made a complaint). Alongside the fact that they kept their child in borderline neglectful environment during the breakdown of their relationship (again, no complaint made). Is there anything I should do regarding this information? Or should I just leave vetting to their job? I appreciate I should have made a complaint at the time but with regards to the fraud the person did not want to made a complaint and was working in mediation with the person (unoffficially, it was unsucce…

I'm sure everyone has heard the Sophie Khan interview on Three Counties Radio. The presenter Jonathan Vernon-Smith started a topic of "Is it time all the Police in Luton were armed?" Right now I'm 38 odd minutes in and it's a very interesting show so far. The best bit is to come I believe our good friend Sophie Khan is due to be interviewed, again! :new_yummy: http://bbc.in/ZDbASA

You don't need permission to go to an IR if you just happen to be there or nearly there anyway :-/ If you just drive straight past the scene of an IR, especially in a marked car imagine the public perception! We are not routinely meant to be responding to them, no, but if you're the nearest unit then it is a no brainer..
