I was on youtube and got lost (as I often do), when I found this video which made me starting thinking. How applicable would Parkour be to Police Officers? And in what measures? I doubt many officers, even if very competent, would be running around like in the video, as there are some things which would probably not allow them to do it: equipment, H&S, and also possibly public perception(and officer fitness standards?). However do you think that there could be a place for Parkour, in small, modest usage which police forces?

My sister in law's idiot boyfriend is a local nominal, to put it mildly. Well, not local to me, other side of the country. Needless to say I have nothing to do with him. Amongst other things he is always up to no good with cars. I believe at the very least he's a non licence holder but strongly suspect he is banned, for driving without a licence (see what I did there? I've remembered my training!) Anyway he seems to wheel and deal in dodgy motors of various descriptions, so is always driving/riding around on them, but nothing ever seems to happen about it. His facebook page (obviously not 'friends' with him, but I can see it all!) is completely open and he often posts p…

Hi All, I realised the other day that being a Detention Officer in my force and also a Special Constable (trying to do at least one shift a week) I have done, on average, a 6-Day week since December and I am now starting to feel the effects of that. Dont feel sorry for me as this is something I choose to do as I enjoy it (given the choice though I'd give up the DO job for Specialling, haha). And this got me thinking, a lot of people on here must be in a similar (maybe worse position than myself) and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to survive shift-work. Specifically trying to maximise your 'energy' on your (very few) days off. Not just your energy but eve…

Hi :new_wave:, I have been given my unconditional firm offer at LJMU to study policing and either work as a special constable or a police volunteer for the duration of my study. The long term aim for me is to work my way into becoming a Police Dog Handler, but for the mean time, I need to prepare for life as a Special Constable! I am greatly excited by the prospect, as from reading some of the posts on the site the job seems quite an excited one! (although their are the obvious down sides). Anyway, getting to the point, I was wondering if anyone has any advice to offer me in preparation for being a Special. i.e; What skills you think are essential to being a succe…

The Met Police are in talks over law change to allow positive discrimination. Assistant Commissioner Byrne says Scotland Yard is looking at 50/50 white and minority ethnic recruitment - banned under current law. Read the article. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/jun/02/met-police-law-positive-discrimination

Anyone used them and can offer an opinion?

Just seen a video of a busking police officer in Birmingham city centre on Police Oracle. Is this a plus or minus for the office of constable in 2013.

Hi all, got my attestation tomorrow, cannot wait! I've got a couple of questions, I'm sure they'll answer my first question for us tomorrow, but I thought I may as well add it anyway, 1) Do you take your warrant card with you everywhere? If not, why? And are there specific places that you wouldn't take it, such as a night out? 2) As someone who both plays and referees football, what would your actions be if a fight broke out/assault took place on the pitch? For some reason, fights/assaults during sport don't often seem to come to criminal proceedings, though I'm aware there have been a rare few cases. For the purposes of this scenario, lets say one player reacted badly…

Thought I'd do a quick post about the medical I did yesterday. Might help some of you who are coming up to it. Basically, if you're healthy, and aren't a drug user (obviously!) You will be fine. My only slight issues were having mild asthma and my eyesight, as I wear glasses to drive, but after tests on them both all was fine. They do blood pressure, BMI, hearing test, eyesight test, take a urine sample, simple movements and take some hair for drug testing. Be warned, they take alot more hair than I thought (a chunk about the thickness of a pen) so ladies beware and guys, dont have a hair cut before hand!! Hope this helps...now I wait 2 weeks for the hair to be tested,…

So an "off topic" thread from the Met external recruitment update.. What does a CKP actually do for you, except burn a hole in your wallet/purse? I'm just looking for an explaination on how to get it, what it allows you to do, and why you need one if you can apply externally. :-)

Hello and thankyou for taking a moment to read this page, I am running Manchester 10k next May 2014 for charity, the Charity I have chosen to run for is Macmillan cancer, a charity very close to my heart, I am asking the good people on this forum just to open the link and read my story, there is no pressure at all to sponsor me, but if you did want to sponsor me, as little as 50p would go a long way to help Macmillan help family's like my own who are living with cancer. Again thank you just for reading my page. http://www.justgiving.com/Steven-Betts11

Could've sworn I'd seen this asked here before but can't find it now and may have changed lately anyway. I have a 2 week Crown Court warning for next month and this covers a number of rest days. If i get called in on a -15 on the rest day, does anyone know if I am automatically paid for an 8 hour tour or just claim however many hours I am actually at work? I'm assuming if I am paid a whole 8 hours it will be up to my skipper whether I actually come into work before/after to work those 8 hours, but just wondering whether they will be tight and only pay me a couple of hours if I'm not there long!

There is currently a thread going on over in the Sussex forum (http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?/topic/138229-sussex-opening-recruitment-for-police-constable-from-10am-june-3-2013/) and I wondered what the general consensus was. Are you more likely to make it through the application process if you are a IPS special than if you are joe blogs with no policing experience?
