Notting Hill Carnival is not too far away. I'd be interested in hearing people's experiences of working this event especially from BTP/MET colleagues.

Hi all Quick question, does anyone know anyone who has applied, with permission from a HR before thier 6 months are up? I had the question asked to me by a colleague. They recently failed a papersift with Norfolk Constabulary. I said I find it highly unlikely that anyone would be accepted before the 6months are up, but it's worth asking, particularly if they hadnt sat an assessment centre within the last 6 months, don't know if you don't ask. Can anyone shed anymore light? Or advice? Thanks, Blueshirt :D

I am sure there is definitely a thread on this already but i've searched and can't see one so a link would be appreciated. I'm looking for a police action checklist or PDP as it's called in Lancashire. It's what all SC's must complete to become independent. Was just interested to see what stuff people have put in one. Thanks.

I was just flicking through some videos on youtube and came across a Met based recruitment video. How come forces don't put up recruitment videos on television anymore?

As the title says... What advice, tips, clues, etc would you pass on which you have found useful when you started (if you can remember that far back). I was told by a reg inspector friend to be an 'expert' on something. Learn all you can about a certain offence/section/order and people will start coming to you, which helps getting to know others in the station etc. Remembering that to a new starter this is all so alien, so even small tips can be useful.

First of all, hello, my name's Ash and I start training as an SC on Friday. :new_wave: Just had an interesting thought... After seeing a review of the Google glasses, I can see them becoming a very practically applicable tool for police officers. They could be used: - To supplement radio capability - To record video and sound whilst on duty - To relay comms/intel right in front of your eyes - To identify suspects previous convictions using face recognition - To alert you to hazards/dangers - Improved night/obstructed vision (fires etc.) - GPS (directions turn by turn on a foot chase or to a location at speed) There are countless possibilities and I really see a…

Advice please. Minor scuffle with an arrested person. Radio which is on a clip fast dock, turned sideways and then the sound disengaged from the ear and went to headset mode. Any advice on how to stop this happening, I kept thinking how dangerous it was because the emergency button was not accessible. It also got me thinking that the radios keys should be lockable, as easily you could end up turning it off inadvertently. I have thought this for a while, but this was the first time it occurred during an arrest.

How long do you have to be a special for before you can become a regular police officer?

Can someone please direct me If this topic already exists. I'd like to know what's the weight of the body armour and all kit that SC must wear when on duty? How did you feel for the first few shifts wearing full kit and how did it have an impact on your fitness performance while chasing bad guys etc. I have 2 children and I was used to carry my little ones in a baby sling when doing shopping or housework. I don't know I anyone carried their children in a slings but is it similar to wearing a kit?? Thanks in advance!!

Im currently in training and was wondering if you witnessed someone dropping litter or spraying graffiti and you issue them a FPN do you still say the caution 'you do not have to say anything etc' once you have seen them committ the offence? And is the caution plus 2 you say rather than the 'when' caution?
