Just so the members of this forum have an opportunity to respond to this Home Office survey.....This consultation concerns those powers used in relation to street crime, burglary, anti-social behaviour, and public order offences such as riots and violent protests. It seeks views on the police powers of stop and search, specifically under the following legislation: Section 1 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 This consultation runs for six weeks from 2 July 2013. Just a quick question, Are collar numbers nationwide or force specific? For example, is it possible for two identical collar numbers but in different forces? Just curious.

I've started talking to a retained firefigher and know a couple of community first responder types along with some in the Army branch of the TA as it used to be known. From speaking with these, it seems that we, the Specials are really the poor relation when it comes to trust from our organisation as a whole e.g. my firefighter and medic mate are both blue light trained as well as other cool stuff like jaws of life and various expensive bits of medial kit. The are also seemingly given the same training as their respective organisations regs, in what ever the task may be e.g. donning BA to clear a fire riddled house is the same course for a reg/retained. It seems that as…

So this has come from a discussion I've been having on a different forum about specials. The topic went back and forth, but what has really got me thinking is this issue. As the government continues to make severe cuts and possible redundancies of regular officers, do specials providing policing for free undermine the regular officers position, thereby supporting the government and making it easier for them to cut further and pay for fewer regular officers on the streets? If that is the case, can we morally continue when our very presence could jeopardise the careers of those we want to support? I'm on the fence. With plans to drastically increase the numbers of specials…

Hi. I seem to remember someone referring to South West trains Rail Community officers recently ? Well, I've got an interview for the position soon and I was wondering if anyone has an insight into the role? I'm a 60 year old retired former Met and MoD officer. I'm very fit and healthy, and I've spent the last three years living in provincial Russia where life can be somewhat tough :-) I either go back, and believe me, there is a great deal to like about Russia, or settle back down here. This job may be an opportunity for that. Any information would be welcome. Thanks.

As title really? What happens after training, are you immediately IPS or are you crewed for a while? I kind of know what the rough plan is in the force I've applied for but interested to see if it's the same in other E & W forces.

Having read a post where a SC commented they do not have 'Custody' access. I began to think if any one else is declined access to any system. In my force every single system we have access to, as per the PCs. Does lack of access prevent you working effectively? Keep generic if required (public forum)

I understand that you will have to work hours of overtime on some shifts but does that mean your shift the next day can start later (if necessary)? I'm just curious about whether the EU law with regards to time between ending and starting the next shift is respected as going without enough sleep will make some people function less effectively. Also, are shift patterns generally a week of the same shift and then a change the next week or do they change from day to day signifcantly? For example will you sometimes do 10pm-6am and then the next day do 3pm-11pm?

So it's been a difficult few years for the Police throughout the UK. Several high profile media reports have surfaced regarding Police tactics past and present, and blunders which may or may not have been made. In my opinion the media seem to be damaging the reputation of the Police and their ties with the public. On the other hand there have events which have strengthened the support for the Police, the 2011 London Riots, the Olympic Games, which saw various Police forces around the country deploying personnel to, and most recently the tragic incident in which two WPC's were murdered whilst on duty. I'm interested in what you, in your own opinion, believe needs to be …

Hi guys , a little background on things: I am a writer (have been for online journalism outputs for quite sometime) and I have decided over the usual "Summer of discontent" for many of the unemployed , bored and even the lazy young people out there, to write an article or two for a series of mine on volunteering. I am currently writing the articles for an Online Magazine aimed at young people. It is called Yuppee (http://www.yuppee.com) As such I am evaluating a wide range of voluntary positions from reservists in the TA/RAF Aux and RN reserves to the hard working Special Constables of our country. My first will settle on volunteering in general and what people can get f…
