Hello everyone. This is my first visit to these forums and I noticed that access to "The Parade Room" forum is restricted to serving regular police officers, special constables and police staff. Access is only granted after a police e-mail address and the officers' collar number, force, etc. have been identified. I am a former regular police officer. I was medically retired as a result of injuries received in the execution of duty and I am receipt of an injury award. I am disabled as per The Disability Discrimination Act 1995. So, this is a question for the moderators - why is there no facility to include former police officers (either with ordinary, or ill health …

I'm after a few ideas for operations / events that you have run or been involved with in your own forces. Maybe something a little different to the normal and that you found interesting. I've got a meeting with one of my inspectors and already have a few ideas but it would be interesting to see what other forces/divisions have managed to achieve. Ideally, i'd be looking at NPT type of events/operations. Things that can make a difference to the people that live in the area you performed the operation.

Once you hit the 9 year mark and are given your long service medal, are you allowed to wear the medal for every duty? There are items on ebay that are the long service ribbon but without the actual medal. If you aren't allowed to wear the actual metal medal would you be allowed to wear this ribbon style badge instead? Personally I wouldn't want to wear it under any circumstances, but would like to know! I guess we could link the Golden and Diamond jubilee medals into this same topic.

Ive done a quick search but not found much, but basically its my last week training to be specialthis coming saturday and ive got to do a presentation based on Religion. One of the things i'd like to include would be how the police accommodate religion? I dont know much about this area so was wondering if any of you guys knew? Ive got down the wearing of religious headwear, ie turbans and hijabs but thats all i've got. Could anyone add any more to it? I promis i'll add your name to the presentation or 'quote' you! :D

I've just read that as a special constable you're expected to put in 16 hours a month. It doesn't seem a lot but I'm visualizing the scenario where if I made it all the way I'd have to juggle my final year research/assignments and studies with the duties of a Met SC. I'm a mature student or immature one depending on how you look at it . I'm now worried I'm going to have my hands full, although I'd prioritise the job of a SC. How have other people especially students found it? Have you been asked to do more than 16 hours a month? Does the Met refund your transportation cost....seeing I'd be travelling from Surrey to London and I'm already skint ?

I am one of those people who hates dangerous drivers, drink drivers, people using their phones whilst driving and basically bad drivers who put others at risk. It is no surprise that over the years forces have been cutting their roads policing units, however the recent news about the cuts of 12% in five years to traffic policing in Britain is actually quite worrying. On a website there is a bar chart showing that every year the numbers go down by quite a lot. I think it's really stupid as I've heard many times that stopping cars for minor offences often uncovers more serious crimes (e.g in Yorkshire where an officer stopped a car for no insurance and uncovered terrorists…

So I was wondering just what sort of proportion of people have joined as specials to get into the regs. I wanted to know so that I can see a group of specials in a meeting and think '4 in 10 of you are just doing this to become a reg'. If there has been this exact poll already please delete! Thanks

Can you please point me in the correct direction for powers to remove a vehicle for obstruction?

This would be a great way to work as a special. http://www.highvisibility.uk.com/_blog/The_High_Visibility_Blog/post/Equisafety_Sponsors_Norfolk_Constabulary/

Hi I'm wondering where specials stand if they are injured while on duty? Life changing our otherwise. Thanks. Phil.

In the last few weeks the building my place of work is based in burgled twice. The first time the target was the office I work in, resulting in about £11,000 worth of laptops walking out of the office and a fair amount of criminal damage. The second time they targeted a different office in the building - they didn't take anything, but they did have a good go and caused another fair amount of criminal damage ripping the door apart. Both times they got through the first two doors by being buzzed in by the same cleaners in a 3rd office in the building. We've got CCTV of both break ins, showing basic descriptions, MO/MoE, direction of travel, time/date. The second break in w…

I find them really helpful for remembering things, but I haven't seen any for the necessities so far. The stuff in the long notes isn't very helpful for me - a whole load of illustrative stories. It's just more stuff to forget I've had a go at making some up but nothing that great so far. Any tips? (PS: am starting my training in a couple of weeks)

I have a final interview coming for regs but have been looking at whether I can afford to join the police full time (it's looking like a 9k pay drop for me) In the past I've known PC's have a starting salary, then a rise when you hit the streets then a final rise when you become independent. Is this still the case? And if not when do you progress up the scale (I read te Winsor report saying younger in service officers should be unaffected) Cheers
