Been looking for someone to get my documents certified for something official. I came across this little gem here on my way: https://www.gov.uk/certifying-a-document It says not only that a Police Officer can certify documents but also says the certifier may charge. So does this mean I am perfectly within my means to charge someone £5 or a £20 to sign and verify a document or form? Seeing as it isn't part of my duty and I don't have to do it. Usually id say yes but as we know , everything is different with the police force

When doing speed checks someone stops and verbally abuses the officers; would and could CPS authorise a Section 5 POA or obstruct police?

So after almost a year as a special, I finally had to draw my baton for the first time! Surprisingly I didn't have that surge of adrenalin I'd always expected, but it was exciting nonetheless. Do you remember your first time having to draw/deploy your baton, or CS/PAVA? Was it as exciting/terrifying as you thought it'd be? Edit: reword question

Apart from searching we really don't have a power to detain. How do you handle a situation whereby someone wishes to walk away yet you are awaiting a description? (Ie. from a burglary etc) I guess this could apply to traffic tickets, but if they don't stay with you you will likely arrest them unless you have full confirmation of who they are. Similar to any on the street process I guess, you rely on the member of the public waiting. Plus RTA whilst awaiting a breath box etc

http://www.witnessconfident.org/download Seems like quite a good idea really. If they can get the funding to make it a completely free service then it might catch on.

I joined as a Special Constable in the 90s. I can't remember, but I must have sighened a (OSA). If I leave without signing the (OSA) am I bound by the Act whether I have "signed" it or not - because it is a law, not a contract? Is the act of signing the (OSA) when you leave simply a reminder of your lawful obligations, that doesn't end when you leave :new_rtfm: .

My grandfather was a Met officer in the early 1970's and he was showing me a couple of photos of photos of himself and his colleagues at training school, almost set up like a football squad for their team photo! Do they still do those? They looked incredibly smart in full uniform. He also had a couple of old diaries, official Met Police diaries. I wonder if forces still produce their own such stationary? And what about a Book 40 - he had an old blank one. Anyone know what they were used for? I posted elsewhere about a check-list he had telling officers what to do and what not to do at public events. Apart from the standard 'smile and be polite and courteous when dealin…

Can any one access the Police National Learning Directory from home? This is the one with legislation etc on. Points to prove. Not the one with training modules on.

I recently gave a driver some traffic tickets (excess speed and no seatbelt), and they told me that they intended to claim them against their company books as an expense, and had done so successfully in the past before. I raised my eyebrows and said that it sounded odd to me, but obviously not up to me what they did: does anyone know if this is actually true and you can do that or not?

OK boys and girls, this is as yet unconfirmed, but I have just come off the phone to my mate who is high up in an unidentified force. He told me that from next month the helicopter will be crewed only by specials. This is because specials are far more reliable than regs and find it easier to train and commit to such a specialist role. And because the regs don't really want to do it, they'd rather stand on the rain on a rather minor cordon. O know it sounds far fetched but it must be true because my mate said so.

Afternoon Ladies and Gents, hope you're all enjoying the sunny weather, I certainly have a long lunch in the pub with a old mate of mine. Keep your eyes open for an upcoming opportunity, as of October 13 a large Southern Police force will be looking for applications for the role of Divisional AFOs for various reasons they're looking to increase firearms cover, this is straight from a force firearms instructor/SFO and have been given the nod to open it up to Specials for the first time I'll post more as and when I'm told (allowed) but thought it worth a thread so you all know to keep your eyes open Standing by for Walt based incoming The Inspector

Hi guys just a quick one: Following on from a post I just made on another thread, how many in your course actually attested? Has anyone had any failures on their course? The reason I ask is Theres a kid on my course with the attention span of a 2 year old (constantly faffing about whilst subjects are being taught) and another who has actually fell to sleep 3 times in class already (I'm talking full on head laid on body, arms crossed). I'm just curious as to whether or not you can fail the course or whether the 'wrong ones' are sorted out once at their respective stations. Cheers guys!
