Whilst watching the recent Specials programme on BBC i saw a young cyclist spout on about common law when getting a ticket, i know this has been discussed already and personally i find the ramblings of these pseudo legal, self righteous and ,quite frankly, annoying people laughable. if the country were to work of the principles of their ridiculous ethos of harm, loss or fraud the country would collapse. I have encountered this on duty (especially after they have had a few sherbets on a weekend) and no matter how many times the person said that it isn't the LAW just an ACT and that i can't arrest him or her for it,my response has been more or less the same - "you're und…

Having a casual browse on eBay after a spot of selling an came across these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ex-Police-Security-Hiatt-Rigid-Handcuffs-Speedcuffs-Speed-Cuffs-USED/111115652849?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D286%26meid%3D8977533088890078411%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1048%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D200941625415%26 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200941625415?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 The question is ... how on earth do these people manage to get these? Especially "ex police" items... surely this is illegal?

I switched my TV on last night - and happend to be in the middle of an episode of British Cops (or whatever it was called) where the TV crew follows police officers around on their daily job. This time it was London Met police. There was one particular incident, which made me uneasy - as a police officer that is. The start of the incident was before I switched the TV on, so I'm only deducing that the police responded to a call of a suspicious male lurking near a house. What I did see was this: police called the male - and he ran inside the house - leaving the door opened. Police followed into the house and got him outside. A short conversation took place, after whic…

You did your training (for some it was a long time ago and for others very recently) and you are taught how to do things the right way................ So since going out on the streets with various different officers or on your own as IPS etc, what in your view was pushed aside for expediency / laziness (i.e. reason / grounds of arrest, full caution, GO WISELY, IDCOPPLAN)?

Greetings all, I was just sat here wondering how often reporting for process is used by other officers when out and about. I was speaking to a friend of mine who's a special with my local force who only ever seems to report drivers at the road-side and thats about it. Speaking personally I tend to report people on a fairly regular baisis for low level offences (Byelaws) and more often specific railway related offences (Trespass, Travel Fraud ect) and find that its an excellent way of dealing and processing people quickly and efficiently. At the moment i'd say around 40-50% of the people I deal with I end up reporting, the rest are usually arrests. A report file tends …

Coming from Scotland it surprised me to see the grading structure of specials in England (and Wales???) in the new BBC programme. It highlights to me the different attitude English forces have to specials and they seem much more integrated with the force than us mere specials north of the border (in my experience anyway). I've read people saying on this forum "Even the highest ranked specials are outranked by regular constables" - but how does this work in practice? Do regular constables generally seek advice from high ranked specials or is there a feeling of "oh, they're only specials we're above them". Also, are special sergeants, inspectors etc. required to undergo the…

I know this subject has been done before, but I am curious if anyone has come across some carrying or using stoppred ( http://stoppared.com/ ) before? If so I'd be interested to know what happened?

What exact power of entry is their if you turn up at a dropped 999 call to find children screaming. Mum at door says everything is okay? Apart from breach of the peace; there must be some child protection legislation for entry. If refused you could not simply walk away from the property.

Just a quick one: say I am required to go to court (or another legally obligatory thing) obviously you need to go. That is that... if you are working though and need the day off from your other job, can they force you to take leave? technically you are not taking a financial hit (and being a days work out) but you are having to take leave which you never ordinarily would have. any help would be great, going to have a word with a rep when back in as think it's a strange one, though I would be accommodated if I were to have Jury Service and be paid.

So the question comes to mind with my more often than not, regarding, specially the way the police force brain washes us to an extent and even making us officers feel like we are somehow "higher" in society, or more rather feel like we know more then the average person. Or no? That is probably wrong. What I am saying is this, excuse me for a moment I am just writing as I think so it will probably seem dilated but whatever - Think of the brainwashing like this. You are in a gang from the age of 10. Brought up to hate the police. You only see the badness in the police. Thus, you never trust them. Now let us look at the POLICE perspective. From myself. Brought up as a pol…

I've seen a few threads posted here of late where officers and MoP have debated the importance (or not) of professionalism in the police. Whilst everybody has their own personal view of what professionalism is/isn't every force have their own protocol to make it clear. To those of you who consider professionalism important: what do you consider are the main attributes? To those of you who don't consider professionalism important: why not and what would you change? To those of you who are indifferent: would you prefer to work with/be dealt by a professional officer? Do you agree with a disciplined service? My conception of professionalism embodies: Courtesy and resp…

Hi, I've successfully passed everything to become a P.C within Nottinghamshire Police. I am currently a S.C within Staffordshire and i'm wondering what the shift pattern is for Nottingham Response Teams. I never asked during my interview as it wont cause any problems, I was just curious. Staffs do 2 days, 2 noons and 2 nights. If the noon falls on a Fri or Sat you do a supernoon. Can anyone tell me if this is similar at Notts. Thanks In advance.
