Hey everyone, Hope you're all well. I will be saying goodbye to my collar number 7xxx now - a collar number I have grown to love and care for. Why am I leaving my collar number behind? I have just been given a brand new collar number, starting 22xx, which belongs to the regs. I have been in the specials around 10 months now, and I have loved every second of it. There have been some very, very tough times - seeing things I could not ever have wished, but through support of my colleagues, friends and family I have emerged the other side a stronger person than I was before. I will still support the specials as much as I do now, the work we do is just invaluable and somet…

All, - Can someone offer some straight forward guidance on when and when not to tell someone the NIP for traffic offences, if its a ticket (points or not) or if your processing them etc. - Are their certain offences that you must deliver the nip speech to our customers whether ticketing them or processing them? Is a complicated subject and I am told a different answer every time. - I await the rats for this! :D

I'm amazed, honestly. He goes on and on about common law, and this is not a crime, 'I know the law'. Not sure if this had been posted if so please close. He doesn't believe the BTP are police officers, and wish the BTP Officer to be arrested.

Hello everyone. Yes this is about myself Andrew Taylor. I left SYP earlier this Summer after more than 19 years service. I rose to the substansive rank of Deputy Chief Officer and was Acting Chief Officer on occasions. It was a fantastic journey but it was finally time to leave it behind.

Hi all. I have recently finished my training as a Special, and as such have had to attend the First Aid input, even though I am a state registered Paramedic (not an issue, as it is Service policy). However, one of the things that was taught was to 'spring' the pelvis - which is the act of putting pressure on the upper bony part of the pelvis and pressing down slightly to detect for possible fractures. Now, this has been deemed as not being best practice in pre-hospital care for quite some years now, with official guidance being issued by the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee (JRCALC) in 2009 - http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/med/research/hsri/emergencycare…

In my area, there have been a number of prisoners who have absconded in recent months and police have appealed on Facebook for anyone to call 999 if they're spotted. The comments on these posts have sparked this thread. Many who commented on these posts are under the impression that the police are responsible for security within prisons and are at fault for letting these criminals escape. These misunderstandings are damaging the public's trust and perception in the police due to them not knowing any different. It's often the case that people mistake the police for being judges and magistrates too. Some people forget about the existence of court, believing that the poli…

So today, I was out with my crew partner and we heard over the radio about a job involving a possible DUI. It involved a young (late teens) driver. His passengers stank of alcohol and he did too, even though it was only 8am. I breath tested him and he blew 29. 29 is below the legal limit for arresting him for DUI. However, it annoys me that he's just a year into driving and thinks drink driving is acceptable. There is no way that the alcohol had no effect on him and his driving but, legally, our hands were tied. He would have passed a fit test and he wouldn't have been accepted by custody. I gave him a very, very stern talking to. He was shamefaced when I had finishe…

Thought this was interesting, from information provided by a force, it costs on average to get somebody from being interested to fully trained £2382.37(including vetting, training, uniform, drugs testing etc but these can vary per person). This was as of 08/2010. However in the first two years it only costs on average(information provided by policing college) £3.40 an hour to have a special on duty, and this lowers to £3 there-after. This averages to around 10% of the cost of having a regular on duty. This was as of 2007.

Hello all, I don't know if this is a problem that I personally have, or whether it affects all of us, but I can never seem to get more than about 2 hours sleep before an early shift. My early shifts start at 7am, which is reasonable enough, but for the first one I can never get enough sleep. By the evening I am so exhausted I sleep like an angel. I presume that many SC's don't do early shifts due to other commitments, but for those that do, and those that work early shifts for work, do you have the same problem? Also, do you have any tips for adapting? It's been 4 years now and it is starting to show, I'm getting grey hairs at 22... 22!!! **To mods, any chance y…
