When Windsor published his reforms, there was a section about changing the criteria with regards to length of service for SC Long Service medal. Whilst I am no Medal Muttly, I have a couple from a former career, has any heard if this has/ will be implemented? I believe it was going to be reduced to 5 years. With the national average being 18 month to 2 years for SC's before a lot leave then it possibly could be viewed as long service of you remain twice as long as the national average. Amended in light of the below.

Hi all, I have received an email today asking me to write a citation for my introduction for my attestation on the 7th November. Ill be honest i dont have a clue what i should write. They told me it should be around 100 words or so and can contain some humour. Does anyone have any ideas of what to include or things that you may have included in yours to get some inspiration. thanks in advance

Hi there, I'm a BBC Radio producer working on 5 live Breakfast and on Monday (1st Oct) we're doing a piece about Special Police in the UK. We're basically looking at DCC Michael Banks' (ACPO's lead on Special Policing) concerns about the quick turnover in Special Constables (the high number of people handing their warrent cards in after just one year) - and what he'd like to do get people staying as Special Officers for longer. I'm looking for some special officers who will be happy to come on the radio to talk about their experiences in the job - what it entails, why it's so important - and why they think people might be leaving early etc. Crucially, I'd also like to s…

Did anyone else see her speech today? The section about the police was ridiculous. She basically insinuated that a significant number of officers were bent, that it was a real enough issue to require a 'register' of officer who had been dismissed, oh, and that people were being widely stopped and searched for the "colour of their skin". Why doesn't she just come out and say how much she hates the police, it's clearly eating away at her. I was thinking about whether the above is even possible on 16 hours a month. When I say competent, I mean a fully competent Police Officer, someone that can be deployed to pretty much any job and do the golden hour investigation. I look at my development since I attested in July 2010. Firstly, I've not completed all my development yet despite being independant since the end of last year. I still need to do more suspect interviews to know that if I get any job handed to me I can follow it through to the end. I expect that if I carry on they way I am, perhaps I'll be there in around 6 months. That means that it'll be around 4 years from attestation to being a fully…

Is it possible to check police emails from home? I've tried logging in via different sites but had no luck. I know in Lancs they use Outlook on station computers, I can't get in from home though.

I recently attended a conference and as I drove into the car park I was stopped by a rather rude and unhelpful uniformed security guard, who appeared to be suffering from a power complex associated with having a Hi Viz florie jacket, then followed a load of unhelpful and rather rude verbal from same said security guard, to be honest at this point I rather felt he had failed the attitude test and decided on entering the conference that I would have a word with the organiser and complain. To cut to the chase I asked the security guard for his name and I got a blunt refusal that "I don't have to tell you" followed by go away, I then asked to see the guards SIA licence as th…

Wasn't sure if I should be posting this in Devon & Cornwall section or not, but would be good to get a general perspective of it also. The infamous radio ear-piece........Can anyone please verify as to whether or not it is mandatory for these to be worn? I totally understand it for certain aspects, policing football matches, demonstrations, etc but as a Special, is it a standard requirement? I'm led to believe that it isn't mandatory. The reason I ask, I'm deaf in one ear and have been told that I do need to wear one, but I'm also informed that it isn't necessary to wear and that as a Special, I wouldn't be on my own. Also, the radio isn't always in use and add to …

I was out patrolling recently and came across one of these vans parked on the side of the road as I pulled out of the junction. It was dark and at first glance I genuinely thought it was a Police vehicle maybe from out of force or BTP. I turned around to have a look. On close inspection it's obviously not a police vehicle but it seems the wording on the side is deliberatly sized to make it appear as though it is a Police vehicle IMHO. What action would you take? Incase you can't read the writting it says "Working in Partnership with UK POLICE fighting crime protecting people"

If a Police Officer is killed on Duty, is it guarenteed to make the news? Had this question asked to me and apparently Officers don't and shouldn't make the news as "People get killed everyday". Opinions?

Hello, I am thinking of joining the specials but the major concern have relates to personal safety. I know some people may find this laughable, but I am not scared of having a scrap or cuts and bruises etc but I am concerned about serious bodily harm. I play a fair bit of rugby and have had my fair share of knocks and 'altercations' on the pitch so I feel I would be as physically capable as most officers. I was just wandering how often police officers get seriously hurt. Has anyone on here had to take time off work for example following an injury they incurred on duty? How often would I be faced with violence in an average borough? Thanks!

The story: there's a guy who lives near me who owns an old Skoda car (white). The other week, he had the word "POLITE" in large letters and mirrored (in reverse for rear view mirrors etc) across the bonnet of his vehicle. This frustrates me a lot- and although he is not impersonating a Police Officer etc...those are his intentions- clearly! What are, if any at all, the legislations on this? PS- I have searched for something on this topic, but it's difficult to find when on a mobile. Apologises in advance

What stopped you from joining the regular service and made stay in a special role?
