Okay, I could have sworn we had a topic on Driver CPC but a search didn't find anything. I'm going through the application process to get my D1 licence for Police purposes and it got me thinking. Now I know that Police and other emergency services are CPC exempt as well as anyone operating not for hire or reward but that brought me to a realisation. You don't need CPC to obtain your licence otherwise we, and other 'for hire or reward' drivers would never gain our licences. So what method of checking CPC status do we have? I know it's not on PNC as I ran a coach driver through a few weeks ago at an RTC. Do companies have to report CPC training to DVLA/DVSA? Is it just…

Found any videos of special constables in action? I reckon it'd be nice to have a little thread of videos, however run of the mill featuring anybody we think may be special constables, who knows, maybe the featured might be on here and not even realise there's a video of them. We can also discuss videos here and perhaps comment on how the scenario unfolded/what we'd do. I found this one earlier. A R Smith SC 19001, handled it pretty well in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcQmNKG8kkE

Just curious as to which forces have SC's attached to specialist units, such as RPU, OSU's etc...

Hi all, Obviously legal observers have no status in law (kind of ironically) but what's the general procedure for accommodating them? Are there any guidelines for it? If so/if not what do you think the guidelines should be? Shikari

Hello all, I'm currently working down London; North London to be precise. I've noticed lots (and I mean lots) of unmarked vehicles with blue lights & sirens installed. Usually, these sirens aren't the standard sound of what our police vehicles are installed with, but sound more cheap and not as good...if you know what I mean. I've seen all sorts, ranging from Toyotas, Fords & BMWs. Now I understand this is London, but I am no way believing that these vehicles are being used for a policing purpose. Also, I've noticed non-NHS ambulances blues and twoing left, right and centre. These are white ambulances (kind of a passenger transport style) with two light ba…

okay, Hypothetical scenario the Government, in the wake of various acts of violence, has decided that all regular officers in the UK are to be armed with Taser, and in line with this policy has thrown money at the Police on the proviso that the money be used to equip and train for Taser. they have also stated that they are not averse to Special Constables being Taser trained and equipped, but that decision is up to each CC to decide. You are the Chief Constable of Citytown Police Service and you have enough money to equip all constables (special and regular) with Taser. what do you do? Sub question. would you (as a special or a regular) carry Taser if it were offered…

And just two of which sum up attitudes today. I happened to be flicking through a social work journal (whilst not publicly available, it is available to the public) Children & Young People Now, there were what I thought two paradoxical articles one below the other. I can't link to it as it's publication, sorry. However: 'Strip searching at young offender institutions ends'. The item itself is fairly longer than necessary for here but essentially, the controversial practice of routine strip-searching of under-18s in young offender's institutions will end next month (I presume May 2014). It seems that all detainees entering YOI are subject to a mandatory strip searc…

I have been a PCSO for a year, loving the job, gaining alot of experiance and getting a good insight into the life of policing. Tried to get in to the regulars last year but failed the SEARCH centre, Tried again this year but failed the application which didnt make sense to me. Just got to keep on trying and this time round i was'nt too fussed because ive still got a job which is secure enough to get me by to pay bills and mortgages. Also i gave alot back to the community i serve, shown visible policing presence and assisted other regular officers in confrontational and non-confrontational situation. The first few months in service i had constant nervousness and adre…

Bear with me on this one before you laugh too much! Basically my work is organising a cops and robbers night out for my birthday. Naturally I know which one I will be dressing as. My question is this; Being an actual special, how authentic can my costume be for a night out before it oversteps the mark? Obviously I don't want to put a bad image to the force by allowing people to think I'm a constable dancing badly with pint in my hand looking worse for wear. Or would it be easier just to go the other way and dress as one of the crims? Thoughts?

The vast majority of us believe that TASER should be available to front line officers, either a number held at stations or even personal issue. Hows this for a debate subject, each warranted officer may on production of a warrant card purchase 1 TASER & 2 Cartridges from an RFD. RFDs must maintain a register and colour copy of the W/C detailing date of purchase, maintenance etc which must be shown to PSD at any time. Additional Cartridges can only be purchased upon production of W/C and stamped form from the force that details the Cartridge was discharged in course of duty. Officers must surrender TASER at any time to Inspector/PSD, upon leaving the force or when …

The CKP issue just just been aired at PMQs by Siobhain McDonagh MP where she described it as the "Bobby Tax" and said something like "The Government are discouraging diversity and equal representation within the Police by charging £1000 "Bobby Tax" to join. Here is the campaign against CKP by Siobhain McDonagh MP http://www.siobhainmcdonagh.org.uk/campaigns/bobby-tax.aspx

Hi Guys, I've have some odd experiences over the past two months and just want a bit of advice; I was out with a skipper when we were flagged down by a member of door staff, someone was really drunk and trying to get into the club. Upon speaking to him he was very very drunk, stumbling everywhere, being loud and swearing loudly. I gave him a PND for D&D which he took and went on his way. When we got back into the carrier the skipper told me I should of arrested him for it.. A few weeks later i was out with the same skipper; we went to a call where a male was reported in the road shouting at cars. I got him to the pavement and he said 'it was fun' - he was really dr…

Hi guys, I'm curiously to know what your views are on general build, height and weight. I can't help but think that my build will really go against me even though the force is all about equal opportunities and all that. Regardless of this, there must be a minor 'under the radar' decision made somewhere when deciding whether or not to push someone through? I am a 23 year old male, 5'8 tall, weigh 10 stone and of slim build. I can't help but think that this could affect my chances. Even if I am a successful applicant, I get the feeling that public Joe will not take me serious enough or when dealing with a public disorder offence, for example, the offender also won't take y…

So for no reason other then it's late, what are peoples views on the Extradition Unit being moved from MetPol to Home Office Immigration enforcement? They're both involved in tracking, arresting and removing people from the country so why not give the task to Immigration?
