Just seen this video on youtube. Seemed a very polite and accommodating officer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nQDP1j9p3E

Dear all, As you can see I am new to the Forum. I am enquiring (sorry if this is posted in the wrong area of the Forum) about interest in Close Protection training. With all the cuts to the Police and Windsor schemes such as A19 would some officers/specials be interested in being trained for work in the Close Protection arena? Many ex servicemen go into close protection when they come out of the Army as they have the necessary skills. As we all know PI (Private Investigator) is a common job for ex police officers and specials however with all the changes to this job (SIA licence/new laws etc) this may become an unpopular route after retirement or as an alternative care…

Arrest for breach if the peace. A common law power. Does it have its own use of force inherent within? Or is it the force of the criminal law act? Additionally does it require a PACE arrest condition?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW_iujPQpys The above is an interesting perspective from artists in the Grime scene. For the record, JME who is the narrator of the short documentary is a very talented MC, his lyrics are relevant humorous and not stereotypical of 'gangsta rap'. Does anyone have any experience of this form used to risk assess music events?

This is my first post and I would like to thank the Forum for allowing me, a mere civilian to use this service. The reason for this thread is that my attention was drawn to a recently closed thread on a driver being stopped because they had an outstanding PCN. It was a surprise that I think all the Police who posted saw nothing wrong with the operation. I understand that to some extent we will look at the same situation from opposite sides of the fence. However what did concern me is that not one of those posters appeared to be concerned at the lawfulness involved. After all, if things go pear shaped it could be your job on the line, not the officer who set it up. …

Morning all! Quick one, when you're applying for new jobs (those of you who are specials that is...) do you tell them on your application or at interview that you are a special? I have had mixed reactions when I tell potential employers. I know honesty is the best policy and I always do tell them. I get the feeling that they think, oh he just wants to be a PC so we wont give him the job.... Any thoughts?

I've posted a link ( Or should I say I tried to post one) of a training video of a Sheriffs Department police officers,in America tackling a violent nutter of a man, armed with heavy chains, using a Pepperball launcher & a riot sheild. After reading about the two killers of Lee Rigby & of that Polish nutter, armed with a machete, (who kept the Met busy for a while) I think the time has come to possibly consider, having these launchers & a supply of PAVA balls or CS balls at the ready with a sheild, like shown in the video. Surely a Pepperball launcher(A modified paintball gun) could save lives, such as taking down dangerous criminals armed with knives, swords,e…

Hi all. I have heard and read of various terms for specials (not all are nice). I am also surprised at peoples perception as to what a special does. Hobby Bobby - makes me smile The comment - your just one of those community support people- or -so your not a real cop then? I dont think the public understand our role until we are actually putting cuffs on or attending at an incident. It helps that at the moment we in Scotland have no identifying mark to show we are SPCs. Unless people are told then when they see us they just think we are regulars. I believe that may change soon with the lapel numbers changing. Anyone else got any feelings on what we are called or how w…

I notice that one or two police forces up and down the country are using this method to gauge the opinion from the public as to what they require their police to concentrate on,(i.e. more foot patrols or more dog poo prosecutions)is this best practice? would it not be the case that only people who are computer savy and who have their own personal axe to grind participate in these surveys and who may also get their friends and relatives to have an input,to boost the perceived problem/tally,or perhaps it should be left to the local commanders to deploy their officers depending on actual incidents etc, perhaps you disagree/agree with what one fed rep has said on the matter i…

Anybody else seen this advertised? Search function isn't working for me today so apologies if it's been discussed somewhere else! http://www.channel4.com/info/press/programme-information/meet-the-police-commissioner Meet the Police Commissioner TX: 29 May 2014, Week 22 Ann Barnes, Kent’s first elected Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), hit the headlines in April last year when she appointed 17 year-old Paris Brown as her Youth Police and Crime Commissioner. Paris was to act as a bridge between the police and young people. However, after a Twitter outburst, Ann’s voice of youth was outed in the national press as ‘violent’, ‘racist’ and ‘homophobic’. This was one …

Dear All, I am a currently serving Inspector with 18 years service. I am a Detective and have dealt with a number of high profile cases that if I mentioned you would all know about. Over the years I've faced guns, knives, serious aggravated violence and have seen colleagues die in service. I have been involved in coaching and training other officers and am an established well respected senior operational Detective. I have sat on a number of final interview boards and frequently coach officers preparing for competency based interviews. I think the cultural barriers in the Police make it infrequent that the average Special would talk to me to any lengt…

As the title suggests are there any laws against buying drugs from drugdealers...as in is there an offence committed?. A mate of mine is a special and is always mistaken for a drugdealer eventhough he don't look like one and he wants to know if he could arrest someone just for asking a off duty police officer if he has "....got some gear for a tenner". Personally, after reading the MDA 1971 briefly it will become an offence when a person either has in his 1. Possession a controlled drug unlawfully 2. "........" With intent to supply and 3. Supplying or offering to supply a controlled drug even where no charge is made for the drug. Thank you in advance if you could elabo…

In the recent local election run up some candidates highlighted matters of littering, illegal cycling, dog fouling and put them high on their priority list. Let's take cycling first because from the three offences it has the bigger potential to cause injury. The other two can be covered separately. Although many dedicated and shared cycle routes are being created some footways are not and never will be suitable for both pedestrians and cyclists. The law is there but not enforced sufficiently. The old argument about free-for-all cycling continues just like the one about legalising drugs. Meanwhile people are being injured by cyclists and about a dozen pedestrians have be…

There was a minor discussion in this thread: http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?/topic/141718-special-constable-hierarchy/ and I thought a post made by Damsel didn't deserve to be locked so I have copied it here. All credit to Damsel for the research! If any amendments need to be made, please post them in RED and also where they need to be made.
