Hi guys I have my assessment day for a regular position coming up and I am going to wear a suit to look smart for my interview and role plays. I have previously been a bricklayer, a firefighter and now a PCSO so I do not know much about the etiquette for interviews. I have a 3 piece suit that I would like to wear however it will be too warm to wear all of it and the jacket does not look good without the the waistcoat underneath. Would it look okay if I did not wear the jacket and just wear the trousers, the shirt and tie with the waistcoat over the top? Also the suit is grey. I've always wore black suits in the past. Is black a safer option or is grey okay? Any advice w…

Ok that's the second time that post was removed, I won't post it again seeing it's seen unsuitable here. But I will ask, yes you do have the power to remove the information where you feel fit as you've asked in my previous post, but I would also like to believe that you would exercise that power with tact and hold a genuine reason why you feel that post is not suitable. I'm open to discussion and to hearing why it is it was removed both times, but as it stands I do not want to offend anyone, so if I have broken guidelines I would appreciated being informed of how I have done this so I can make relevant changes to the post as I believe it is an important issue to discus…

I was browsing a few of the websites for forces that either have current transferee vacancies or have had such vacancies very recently. Having done the same thing about a year or so ago I have noticed a subtle change. Previously the norm seemed to be for forces to accept transferees from Home Office forces AND BTP. Now it seems (at least at the moment), that they're all stating ONLY home office, one specifically stated NOT BTP. It seems odd that multiple forces have adopted this policy at the same time. Has there been some kind of change centrally in terms of equivalencies? Has there been some negative experience with integrating BTP officers? Can anyone shed any lig…

I am a member on another forum and there has been a recent discussion on policing. I engaged in said conversation with an ex-Police Officer that had served in the Met. His opinion of Special Constables can be seen below. It wasn't the response I was expecting. I am hopeful that the force I serve in takes a better approach toward Special Constables, but this guys scaremongering tactics have worked a number on me! That said, I am still immensely excited to start the training and to be out there on the streets. "We used ours for pony dull and unskilled tasks like standing on cordons, or guarding insecure premises while waiting for the keyholder to turn up. But in my experi…

Hi I hope you can clarify something for me. If there is a two lane on - no road markings - one lane off roundabout who is at fault? Scenario I approached the roundabout in the left lane intending to leave at the exit opposite (I would say it was at 11 o clock according to the road sign). I stopped to check surroundings as normal. There was no car directly on my right however I could see a car in my drivers side mirror in the right lane near the back of my car. There was an island in the middle of the entry and exit to the roundabout with two men on it. The men crossed behind me but in front of the other car. I entered the roundabout on my own and started signalling l…

Hello, I have been serving with the MPS for three months now as a special. I like the job, but it almost seems like all the terrible things I deal with come home with me. I seem to over obsess about it all and can't stop thinking about it. What is your coping mechanism/ what would you recommend? Thank you

Hi Everyone, I've recently been accepting for a post in the force control room for Hertfordshire Constabulary. I start on 7th July, but before i stat i'm looking to take part in a ride along with the police officers. I'm booked in for a Friday night shift in Watford. Can anyone give me some information on what normally happens? How many officers do you go with? What happens if something 'kicks off'? Any information on this would be appreciated! Many Thanks Samantha :new_wave:

This should probably be in the regulars zone section, but that part of the site seems pretty dead. Feel free to move it mods if you like Anyway, just a quick one, have any regulars taken a career break? Im thoroughly disenchanted with the job and would throw my warrant card in tomorrow if it was financially viable, however the career break scheme seems like a good way to get stable in another job before I remove myself from the Police. How long can the break last, how does it work, and what are your experiances?

Just stumbled across the above show currently on BBC One. Cameras are shadowing bailiffs in London who are out on the streets using ANPR to pull over vehicles and demand payment of outstanding parking tickets. The bailiffs refused to let those they pull over go without taking payment in full and I've just seen one chap search a car for anything of value that can be seized plus fix clamps and attempt roadside recovery. What's people's thoughts on this? Certainly haven't came across this tactic before, then again I've never had a parking ticket! :new_shades:

Reading this thread, it seems that the only forces without a Specials Chief Officer are: - Northamptonshire - Northumbria - West Midlands - West Yorkshire Is this correct? And, more importantly, how is the experience without a Chief Officer? I ask because my force has now removed the Chief Officer post and we will now be managed by a regular, and was wondering what to expect. It doesn't seem like many forces have gone this way, so curious.

Does anyone know if specials in scotland can join the SPRA. Had a look at the site and it offers some superb discounts and offers. It would be a nice benefit for specials to receive and though it's a paying membership I am sure many would gladly stump up to receive the benefits.

Yes I can hear your banter now even from the other side of internet of when you saw the topic, leave it... :new_doh2: This is actually a serious topic. I don't know who designed our helmets but we can all agree, our helmet has a very specific shape. I heard of the old legend that it's good for delivering babies, one thing that our trainer has not recommended at all. So I thought, beside of protecting our head, what else is it good for? Have you got any examples? I found the other day - it's very good for when you got your bottle of drink, and you need to grab some food for yourself and the team but don't have enough fingers to carry it all. The big space in the hat co…
