Would you ever launch a formal complaint against a colleague of yours? I only ask because i heard a colleague of mine has launched a complaint against an Inspector on our borough and theres a mixed response about it. Some saying its a good thing and the inspector should know better, and others saying you shouldnt go against your own, you're both in the same side etc. just really looking for peoples views in complaints. The complaint is about workplace bullying.

The Scottish Police Federation has launched a new campaign titled Its What We Do to highlight the day to day activities of the police. It would seem that this has to do with a survey that they wish people to fill in. As part of the campaign the have included three videos detailing different things that officers may come to deal with daily. For anyone who wishes to join up as either a special or a regular this actually gives a real insight into the job, I feel. For those of us already serving: the video for the domestic is a stark reminder of how quickly something basic can turn. I recommend watching it. Al the videos are available on their web page. Mods, if you wish…

Hello, I was told the other day that can put in my statements that if I believe somebody i deal with is under the influence of drugs or alcohol I can say 'in my professional opinion they were under the ....' Policing is not my profession so would I be opening myself up to trouble if the incident went to court?

Most of the burglaries, robberies and motor vehicle crime on my patch is committed by a small cadre of recidivist offenders. Generally we know who they are and they get away with a few offences before they get caught again and put back in side for a short stretch then are back out at it again. It's a depressing fact of modern policing which I'm sure most are familiar with. Why not, then, if we are going to insist on releasing them repeatedly, make it a condition of their releases (and part of their original sentences) that they have to wear a GPS tag on an ankle bracelet for several years after their release? It need not have any conditions attached - save to make it an…

Hey there everybody! Just thought I would start this up for anybody that is currently involved in the interview stages for Cheshire Specials. I had mine Monday and I am really eager to hear my results! Hopefully there are a few of you on here that I can get to know before we hopefully start our training.

Hi guys I have just got a CKP qualification and I'm applying for northants police force at the moment. Apparently the force will start you on a higher pay increment if you have a foundation degree in policing. Does anyone know if the same would apply if you have a CKP? May be a stupid question but I thought I would ask as I'm sure someone on this forum would know the answer. Matt

Hey all, ive just passed 9 years since starting training with Essex and I believe that I will be eligible for my long service medal next time they are presented. Only thing is, im transferring to BTP. Can I just check that I will still be eligible to receive it. Im 99.9% sure I will, but can anyone confirm?

This is a thread inspired by, but unrelated to, the recent Taser story. I noticed in the video that the male was stripped fully naked for the search. I am aware that in some forces the policy is to require an individual to remove the top half (e.g. t-shirt) and bottom half (e.g. jeans) separately to maintain some dignity; unless exceptional circumstances exist to justify the detainee being totally stripped. I'm aware of concerns regarding the detainee 'palming' contraband although a proper search can obviate this risk. So - what is the policy in your force and do you agree with it?

We have been doing our PST this week and experienced exposure to pepper spray, as much as I have described it to family and friends, nobody seems to understand how painful it actually is! Red hot needles being driven into the eye is my best description so far! Anyone else experienced it, and were you as shocked as I was, with how painful it is? We were using Captor 2 rather than CS.

Hi all, I just want to know the chances of being taken on in the regulars at around 19/20 with A Levels, I am also a Special Constable. I have been told by a number of people to not bother until you are around 22/23 before you are actually taken seriously, even more concerning is that I was informed that some forces won't even look at your application and put it straight in the "no" pile. What are my odds? Thanks all

As a SC is it possible to specialise in a department or are you assigned to a team whenever you are on shift? and if they can specialise, what can they specialise in? just ignore how many times "Special" is mentioned :new_sweat:

http://icva.org.uk Stumbled across the above website, I was curious as to what exposure people have had with independent custody visitors, what their opinions were and if you think they are a necessary evil. How often do they visit custody facilities?
