All, Looking to determine how many EBM trained specials we have across the country. If you are, can you let me know if you're attached to RPU or not, and which force you're with? PM if you'd prefer! Ta, Adam

Just wonder what was the longest daily commute you have ever had to do. I'm thinking of commuting but I'm undecided if its do-able.

I've been browsing some of the older threads on here, going through some old posts ect. I have often voiced my opinion on this very subject but have never actually drawn up a specific thread on the matter, last year there was a thread of the introduction of a "Carabinieri" type quasi-military force which was widely panned because it doesn't fit in with the basic British policing model of consent and frankly I agree with that point. However could it be time to introduce a 'two tiered' system? One of 'National Policing' and one that reverts back to the former model of 'Local Policing' through local authorities. One of my biggest complaints of modern day policing within t…

Hiya folks, Well in the past my finances have not been the greatest, but I'm doing my best to turn it all around and I'm making payments and getting stuff sorted. I've just signed up for the full Experian account (£15 a month) so I can monitor my credit report and see what's what. Just wondering how this kind of thing can affect future applications? I have a few settled credit accounts and one unsettled on my file (although I'm pretty sure it needs updating as I think it is settled), do even settled accounts create any kind of issues? Times may be tough but I'm thinking of my future and trying to get my finances sorted, not only for future applications but also for mo…

I am half way through a four year university course but I really just want to apply to join a police force now and leave university. Does having a degree actually do anything in terms of career progression in the police? Thanks

Apparently The Police Regulations 2003 state that members of the police service should not take an active part in politics. So how is it that there can be a MP who is also a special for BTP? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6647455.stm

Often I am in and around Berkshire and occasionally pass through Crowthorne - home to Broadmoor High Security Hospital. Whilst reading online about Broadmoor I was amazed to read the annual cost per patient is estimated to be £335.000 When you think the average cost of keeping someone in prison is around £35 to £40 K per year. Anyone visited Broadmoor ?

Hello all, thank you for taking your time in viewing my post. I have a few of questions here. 1) Many Special Constables are students and travel to there home counties etc. Do they still have powers of arrest within the whole of England and Wales? 2) Are SC's able to do shifts with other force, e.g. Going back to your home town and missing the Friday nights as an SC. 3) How easy is it to get a transfer to another force as an SC? Thanks! :-)

Our force, Nottinghamshire, have recently informed us of a new role but I struggle to find any information about it, that being the Response Community Support Officer. We have been told they will support the response teams and drive marked police vehicles. Do any other forces have RCSO's and what roles do they perform?

Did anyone see the full documentary the other night? I'm afraid I missed the first part, but it didn't seem very complimentary of senior members within the PF. What did you think?

The Police Federation of England and Wales is conducting a survey on Tasers. I don't know if it's open to specials too, as the first question is a bit ambiguous, but I didn't want to put it in the Regulars' Zone in case specials can take part. Please feel free to move it if necessary. Link here. Tweet here.

Someone said on here, as part of a quote in a post, and I have heard with my own ears, more than once, those very words from professionals. 'We don't want to criminalise children'. I have known young people commit theft/burglary and even assault police upon their arrest be referred to the YOT (Youth Offending Team) who do undeniably excellent work with offenders and those at risk etc rather than remand. Yes, criminalising children makes it harder for them to get jobs in the future, it could stunt a young life before it's really got going due to a criminal record. Up to a point I can agree, see where they are coming from and sympathise. But how far do we allow that to go…

When a section 18 search is done on a property while the owner is in custody but there is someone present, does that person get a list of items seized? If the property is empty because the owner is in custody, is the owner given a list while in custody? Also is the list itemised or just a general list? Thankyou in advance

Should Police misconduct hearings be made public and open to the media ? Members of other professions such as Paramedics misconduct hearings are held by the HCPC and the outcome of hearings are published online, see below for examples: http://www.hpc-uk.org/complaints/hearings/archive/index.asp?id=3137 http://www.hpc-uk.org/complaints/hearings/archive/index.asp?id=3128 http://www.hpc-uk.org/complaints/hearings/archive/index.asp?id=2907 Details of recent hearings: http://www.hpc-uk.org/complaints/hearings/archive/index.asp?startrow=21 The publication of cases shows the public that complaints are investigated and that when misconduct is investigated that the hearings …
