We all know how much police forces love mnemonics! Let's try and compile a list, here's the ones I can remember to start with, anyone want to add any more or correct any mistakes? Whenever I switch the Television on these day's, especially on sky there seems to be one after another television fly on the wall documentary following the police. I have some concerns about the way policing and cctv footage often of members of the public in distress is used for entertainment and profit by the television program makers. Many of the MoP's who appear in these programs react when camera crews appear with the police making the situation more difficult and in some cases this seems to provoke a violent reaction towards the camera and police. Should policing be used for entertainment television ? The other concern is that many of those filmed have mental hea…

Have any of you ever come across Expert Witnesses in Court? (without going into too specific details when you reply) Reason I ask is I am currently listening to the prosecution picking apart the evidence given by an expert witness in the Oscar Pistorious trial and he seems not to be an expert on anything he is giving evidence about.

Good morning all, What powers, if any, do the police have to inform someones employer of their arrest? That's just their arrest not charged.

Were you disgusted or was the program taken out of context.

I've had a quick search but couldn't find the answer: what are the geographic limitations that apply to a Special? Eg. Let's say I'm a special in GMP, do I have any jurisdiction in TVP? I don't mean to mince about in uniform, I mean as in powers to intervene if required when off duty as I would be expected to in GMP.

Just been sent this by a friend who was telling me how disgusted they were by it. Wondered what everybody else's thoughts on it were. Apologies if in wrong section

Does anybody know what fail safes are in place at these kind of shops to prevent them from buying stolen goods? A quick google search shows a few cases where these types of shops have been closed down for buying stolen items. The cash generator near me always has groups of teens hanging around outside with expensive electrical goods on them. They then take it in turns going in to sell their items. Just yesterday I witnessed a known shoplifter going in with a brand new looking Xbox One console and he came out without it so one can only assume he sold it.

Afternoon all! I am looking to rejoin the service through Thames Valley Police's rejoiner scheme having served elsewhere in the country. It would be ideal if I could chat with somebody already in the force - the areas I understand the force are currently seeking rejoiners in are Windsor, Maidenhead, Reading and Slough. I will buy anyone a pint for their help when I (hopefully) get down there! :-)

Hey guys, just a concern I've had for a bit, wouldn't mind getting your opinions and any advice you might be able to give. I've been trying to apply for various forces since roughly last June, each of my 4 apps have been unsuccessful with no indication as to why. It was only because Merseyside gave me a reason that I've started thinking about this, the reason being the tattoo on my right arm. It is located on my forearm about an inch and a half from my wrist (easily covered by a long sleeve shirt as I do in my current occupation). I remember HR from GMP telling me once that they deliberated for a long time over it in case my "sleeve got ripped open and someone got off…

I was having a look back at old threads from a few years back and Taser trained SC's seemed to be a big no no. This got me thinking, are there any SC's who are trained and carry Taser on duty? I have read there's an SC who's a pst trainer and is authorised but doesn't carry on duty. The role of Specials is expanding and even Sir Peter Fahy said recently that Specials are growing in stature. I would be interested to know is there actually any SC's out there that's got this training. Will

Afternoon all I have recently acquired this badge.(picture attached) I have carried out a bit of research but it's proving quite difficult to identify the force that this is from. Anyone that recognises it and has a little bit of information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have just been reading an article on Oracle this morning while having my breakfast that Chief Supt Adderley from Greater Manchester says that more career specials are needed, turnover is becoming higher and that it needs looking at,presumably to reduce it, one of the sixty four dollar type questions to be asked is obviously how are we going to go about it. One of the first question that springs to my mind is what is it that these "volunteers"(I am only talking about people who have no intention whatsoever to join the regs ever but just want to cut crime etc) want out of it?are they perfectly happy just to work in company with a regular officer most but not all of …

A friend of mine is worried about escalating domestic violence. Eseentially one person she lives with has been verbally abusing her and stealing her things (can't prove) over the course of months and it is escalating. She's now scared to go home and thinks it will become physical. So my questions are; 1. If she reports it is it enough to effect an arrest and. 2: Once he's bailed in the morning can he just come straight home? Will he have bail conditions not to return? Any recommendations? N.B. they live in the same house but are not in a relationship or related.
