I've just watched the first series of 'Good Cop' on BBC1 the new drama series, and for those who have watched it, you would have most certainly felt your heart racing in hope that he saves his partner from the brutal beating.. Now, given the circumstance, if that officer was armed with a pistol, he would have been able to fire shots at the armed men and prevent his partner been brutally murdered on the floor. Every country that I have been to, all of their police officers have a firearm. Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, Australia and America.. But why isn't the UK?

Hi all, I have an upcoming presentation coming up and I'm trying to put together some sort of graph or pie chart to see whether the use of CCTV is successful. I'm trying to find out the exact figures in how successful CCTV is in identifying criminals. I'm hoping to try and find a three year history at least, but having searched the internet I can only find statistics from the Met in 2010 (http://content.met.police.uk/News/CCTV-success-in-2010/1260267424064/1257246842383) Does anyone know where I can find more statistics? It would have been ideal if the Met published a page like the one above every year, but I can't seem to find it. If anyone has any ideas or suggestio…

I have a bunch of information on a serving member of the navy who's been scamming people for years and getting away with it, I've found out all his real details, but I have no idea how to forward said info the the RMP. Does anyone know how to do so? I'm abroad so it's not a matter of just popping into their local branch

Anyone else aware of this weekend being National special constabulary weekend of action? I had no idea but just saw it on Facebook. Would have been nice to know especially as I was at a specials roadshow earlier in the week with the inspector who is coordinating specials scotland wide.

I am a full time glasses/contact lens wearer. I've just joined the job and I've got quite bad eyesight. For those who are like me and rely on glasses/contact lenses which you rely on a daily basis while doing the job which do you prefer and why? Pros and cons please, thanks.

Is there any good bloggers still going? I've just read back through Sergeant Simon's and found it a good read, although he seems to have stopped 3 years ago! Anyone know of any current ones?

Hi all, Just been re-watching 999: What's your emergency and I was wondering what happens from call to dispatch of police/fire/amb. I expect this is force specific, but how do different services communicate with each other when required at the same incident i.e. a stabbing or RTC, in regards to them all being dispatched at the same time (as opposed to one services turning up and then requesting other emergency services). Also, how does it work in your force with the initial call being taken in regards to the route the call takes? I'm just curious, and I think a basic understanding of this process may come in useful at some point. Cheers, Shikari

I am wondering as I see people on programs when pulled over the officer reads their rights and ask do they understand, when they say no, do you have to keep repeating till they understand? Like if the guy is fully English and keeps saying "no" because he doesn't understand?

I have been looking at the HPDS and Graduate scheme along with the direct entry superintendent recruitment and I have some questions. As someone who wishes to become a Reg and eventually with the experience and skillset progress up the ranks, I am concerned. Why are existing PCs not being actively promoted to Sgt and Sgts to Insp etc. What advice would you give? Specific degree?

Afternoon everybody, First of all apologies for probably posting this in the wrong place of the forum, this is my first thread so that probability is high i guess.. I have an interview to be a special next week - i am wondering if there is anyone who has had a very recent interview through Northumbria Police? If so could you possibly message me on how it was structured? Questions you were asked, times etc? As I am very nervous (but ready) and would like to see if there is anything i am missing Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards

I know this has been disguised before, but i will keep my comments to a minimun and let the clips do all the talking... (ITSWHATWEDO clip) (officer shooting suspect)After watching both these clips, I couldn't stop asking my self, why are all British Police not armed? at least taser! could have saved the officer in clip one being injured! How many of these situations have happened before? I'm still not 100% convinced that Brit Police should be armed, but its clips like this that make it hard to vote against it!! comments?

So I'm curious about the tolerance levels of Officers here about when someone comes into physical contact with them. Are you particularly defensive about people who you don't know being coming into physical contact with you? Or would you say you are more tolerant? In the in the US, officers seem to be very defensive about their personal space. Do you believe it is the same here or are UK officers more tolerant in general? I have purposely left this very open and broad.

I've been told by several regs and specials that it is a good idea to get hold of a cheap mobile to take out with you rather then risk breaking your fruit based smartphone and the same applies to watches and other 'daily use' personal items. What does everyone else do in this case?

Are officers allowed to carry swiss army knives? We were being toe'd out a ditch by another car, and obviousl the knots at each end of the rope got tighter. The officer pulled out a swiss army knife and cut the rope, was this allowed?

On our first two days we were bombarded by police 'salesmen'. I noticed there are 3 health plans we can go for-police fed 'goring' house, police mutuals health care scheme which offers private hospitals and Bupa's police scheme.Should I go for one? If so why? Need some good advice so I don't waste money, thanks. We were also advised strongly to get our hep b vaccine done. Where and how and what's the fastest route? Heard there is also a high cost involed
