Note: I can't change the title, but I meant SOCAP - not SOCA. One of my tutors has given me those three laws to have a look at over the next few weeks, because the current work at college I already know about (Police powers), and I am constantly completing my homework within the lesson, because I seem to grasp it rather easy. He tells me that because they are all rather important, it'd be a good idea to know, or at least have a good knowledge of these before I join the police, because it'll make training a lot easier, apparently. Can anyone suggest where to start looking? Does Blackstones manuals cover them, or is there a website I could look at? Cheers Calvin

Just a quick question really. If we are on patrol and suddenly someone just runs away from us for no reason, what power can we use to detain them and on what grounds? Obviously we want to find out what offences (if any) have been committed. Can we use reasonable force to detain them, ie handcuffs and other tactics if they struggle? Can we arrest on suspicion of committing a criminal offense? Just curious. Thanks.

Hi, I was just wondering what the ruling would be in this circumstance, I know that the age of consent is 16 for the uk for both boys and girls however currently im 15 and my girlfreind is 14. we havent had sex yet and dont feel we need to yet, we are both born in 1992 and there is about 7 months between us however if i was to have intercourse wtih her once I had turned 16 ( she would be 15) would I be prosecuted and if so what would be the outcome of that? .........regarding an item off ebay. I sent a cheque to a seller which was cashed 12 days ago & as of yet not had the item.I have informed ebay under the dispute feature on the site but as yet the seller has failed to respond to any email of either my self or ebay, so how do i stand please ? i have the sellers home details etc BUT he is no longer registered as a seller on ebay now!!!!!!!. It wasn't a great deal of money but things like this really p**s me off & i don't want to let him get away with ripping me off if i can help it. Thanks in advance.

Am I right in thinking you don't need an I/P for theft by finding?. Having a discussion at work tonight and I was under the impression that if someone doesn't make reasonable steps to locate the owner of the property and just took it for their own they are guilty of the offence?. I had a job and I was going for attempt theft by finding as someone was caught loading some property into a vehicle but was disturbed. A look on the PNLD didn't get any definitive answers and the stated cases didn't shed any light either. Cheers T

I know it is usually dealt with under S5 of the POA, but could it also come under indecent exposure?

Recently in our force we had an instance where some idiot make a prank 999 call about a shooting in a nearby public park in which a child had been shot and killed by another. Air support, search teams and numerous section officers were clled to the scene and searched the area for a number of hours before it was established that this was a prank call and the offender who lived nearby was arrested with the phone on his person. Are there any recordable crimes which would fit the offences committed as wasting police time and the telecommunications act (public network) do not fit. the only one I can loosely see to fit is public order due to the alrm/distress caused to the pub…

So my sister is receiving texts from an ex boyfriend, who is threatening to kill himself if she doesn't go to his house. She has kept the texts and told him she isn't going to come round. She would tell him she's seeing someone else but she is afraid he would kill himself. Is there a law against this kind of manipulative harassment? He also uses my younger brother to find out where she is. Thanks Calvin

Hi folks Just wondered if there were any guidelines on use of hi-viz chevrons on the rear of vehicles; i.e. can anyone use them, limit to colours used? Reason I'm asking is that I will have cause to park in some areas and positions that, although not illegal, may expose the vehicle to greater risk, and was wondering if, as an ordinary member of the public with a private vehicle, I can put chevrons on the vehicle to reduce that risk. Obviously safer for me and other road users. Any help greatly appreciated. Pedro.

I may be completely off the mark with this one but my understanding was that NIP's for things such as driving offences have to be received within 14 days to be valid? If this is the case ( which i realise it may not be ) what would happen in the case of the postal strikes where mail has been delayed by over the 14 day period especially in areas affected by the unofficial strikes ie Liverpool?

Hi guys, Question I've been worried about based on what I heard from soneone. Is it illegal to not registor on the electoral roll?? I pay my council tax but I haven't bothered sending that one away. Please put my mind at ease? EDIT: Okay Illegal is not the right word... "civil offence" perhaps. I dunno. But do I need to be on it??

Not sure if this should be here or in the traffic section but anyway... Went to London yesterday and got stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway for over 2 hours :roll: Whilst everyone was sat waiting there were loads of cars driving up the hard shoulder with their hazards on, Some even turned off their headlights and just had hazards on. Is there a law against this? P.S. How you Met cops manage to get through London traffic is beyond me!
