Is it legal for a civilian security person to arrest for attempted aggravated trespass? The scenario is this. There are various sites around the country where protesters will try to gain access to stop a lawful activity. this is usually done by chaining themselves across site roads or to pieces of equipment. Once they are one site they will usually run to their target ("Excuse me, you're trespassing, could you please leave" is not an option). There is an obvious need to stop them before they secure themselves to something or enter hazardous areas as you don't want to be trying to restrain someone amongst moving machinery etc. So can we do a citizens arrest as soon as t…

Just looking for opinions or experience. if a person gives false details to an officer who has requested them (not though any specific legislation) as part of an investigation into unclear offences on the street. this i believe is sufficient for obstruct police. as i understand it if an officer asks for your details, you don’t have to give them, accept under certain legislation. but if you give a false name and dob, this is obstruct of the officer in execution of his duty. curious as custody sgt looked at me like i had done something nasty to his tea when i brought the guy in.

Just a question regarding PACE [ I believe its the appropriate act] What powers does a PC have to request someones name and address, does it have to be in relation to an offense being committed? I am aware of the PCSO side of it where if you don't give your details for a relevant offeence than that itself is an arrestable offense.. For example can a PC request anyones name/address etc even if a relevant offence hasn't taken place yet, but possibly the officer suspects the person might commit a crime. For example a man hanging around a playground acting suspiciously... Thanks

Please advise. Im on duty when i assisted a Single crewed mobile with an offence of Crim Damage. Youths just made off from scene after breaking glass. CCTV appeared to capture the offence and saw two 12 year old youths running away from the scene. While on route CCVT directed me and colleague to the two youths and I/D them as causing Crim Damage. Control/ CCVT and officer at scene requested an arrest. Arrested both suspects. Cust Sgt asked why street bail wasnt applied in the circumstances. Turned out the two arrested suspects were not involved. Parents of youths turned up at custody very angry and claiming wrongful arrest. Im dreading a complaint. Please can you…

Hi, I'm a student currently working some weekends at a petrol station to earn some extra cash. I've had quite a lot of abuse off customers since i've worked there. One guy was drunk and being abusive because he had to wait, others have had a go at me because I'm not allowed to let them use the staff toilet etc.... Last weekend I stopped a shoplifer who had stolen a chocolate bar right in front of me (no big deal realy), and I said ''what have you got in your pockets'' and he denied he had anything and started calling me a liar etc. Then after a while it got a bit heated and he started giving me loads of abuse, swearing at me and threatening me and saying ''come outside …

I've been asked by a friend to find out the following. He owns a garage and has had a problem getting payment out of some customers for work he's done to their vehicles. He asked if he could legally take their cars until they paid to which I told him that would be classed as theft and he would then be the one in the wrong. So what can he do to recover payment without too much cost to himself? Can they be arrested for refusing to pay for a service provided? Any advice you can offer would be appreciated as he's currently owed around £5000 between 2 or 3 customers.

I would really appreciate if someone could give me an example in words how they record in their PNB when they have issued a HORT1. In 14 years I have been pounding the beat I have seen various ways PC's have recorded in their PNB's the fact they have issued a HORT1. Some write 3 pages long and others write a few lines. Please can someone write a dummy record if possible (3 cautions, 7 day rule ect).

Yesterday I was stopped and searched under the Terror Act (Sec44), and then arrested (Sec58) - I was released, but I wasnt told if I was being charged or cautioned or bailed or free to go (Was told get your stuff, and basically get out of the station, turn left, your at xx tube station). The only thing I signed was the property doodad that said I got all my stuff back. Does this mean I havnt been charged? And is there any way I can get a bit of paper that says I was arrested, and a copy of the stop and search form, or is it likely to piss them off even more? I am interested in a flashing amber, or red/amber, strobe unit fitted on my rear window/parcel shelf of car, and the conditions under which I can legally use it on UK roads. Eg parked on a busy highway, in a legal manner, with flashing strobe unit for added visibility? Thanks

Hi All, Can you offer a little advise, whats is the current standing on High Level brake lights (HLBL) or also known as 3rd brake light, normally placed in the top middle of your rear window. The question is drivers are now placing stickers which obscure (not block) the HLBL. with various words, ranging from a racing name to some rather unpleasant text. Some have even gone through a MOT recently with these on. DO you have to have a HLBL, as you have a further two rear brake lights? What offence could or would you be commiting? Just a question guys / gals, Having read s24, and lets say as a layman, it appears that 'any person' may arrest anyone for commiting/being suspected of an indictable. And caught or being suspected of a summary, so long as 'the perp is likely to do one' (my words obviously). Notwithstanding case law (that I haven't read - if any?) does this read to anyone else, that an 'any person' practically speaking, has better powers of arrest than a PCSO? intrigued layman!

Today, whilst walking home form School, i was hit in the face for no reason atall. I've got real bad bruising on my jaw and a loose tooth because of it. I didn't hit him back or try to insult him or anything. Story behind it: 2 people in my year group have recently been excluded for 5 days and banned from going to the prom for smoking weed in class.
