Do we have a power to stop somebody and request ID if they are drinking to ascertain that they are over 18 in public and private land or just public? I am sure there is, but can we stop them just because we think they look young and do we have the power to seize/pour away drink and is that include sealed cans/bottles also? Cheers Davies

hello just abit confused, my mate has just been pulled over my a police lady on her own and was told it was just a random police check, she asked for his insurance and he said he didnt have it on him and she said that was a criminal offence and read out his rightsor whatever (you do not have to say anything.....) she didnt check the car, tyres or anything and just told him to report to local police station with his documents within 7 days. is this the right way to go about it? cheers lads manny

Hi Guys I am passionate about dogs but I would just like to get your views on this. I am not entirely up to scratch with the DDA (Dangerous Dogs Act) BUT surely if the dog is on that list then it should be PTS (Put To Sleep). Just a failry basic question, but one that I cant get a satisfactory answer about... As a student officer, we had a question regarding a bladed article in a knowledge check... The question went along the lines of : "SMITH IS CARRYING A PENKNIFE WITH A BLADE 2.95 INCHES LONG, AND HE CARRIES IT WITH HIM BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN THREATENED A NUMBER OF TIMES AND STATES THAT HE WILL USE IT ON ANYONE THAT THREATENS HIM FURTHER. Anyone know any specific laws relating to Taxi's and what they need to be able to produce to me or any offences taxis can commit?? I know I can check for anything the same as anyone else driving, but this is my first Taxi operation and don't know if they have their own set of laws. For example no taxi licence. Any Ideas??

John and Jane are long-term boyfriend and girlfriend. Jane is having a secret affair with Simon. Jane subsequently starts having a second secret affair with Richard, while continuing her affair with Simon. Simon finds out about Jane's affair with Richard, so Simon uses a commercial web site to send a fake SMS message to John's mobile number that appears to come from Richard's mobile number, in which Richard appears to divulge to John that he is having an affair with Jane. The SMS message is not threatening or offensive, but is truthful and factual. Is Simon committing an offence under English law and if so, would the police or CPS be likely to pursue such a case?

I'm sure most specials here won't have to worry about the evil MG6 series (i.e. MG6c, MG6d and MG6e) but I spent most of today getting ready to explode. Briefly anything relating to a case must be included in a prosecution file, even if it not going to be prosecution evidence. Since we have to tell the defence anything (in case we have something that could help them) we have to tell them everything, presumably in case we "forget" to tell them something that shows their client to be innocent. I was just wondering if anyone on here knows the laws on Realistic imatation Firearm's. So bb guns and things like that. Please dont research this i just would like to know off the top off your head what you know about the laws. And how would you deal with this situation. You pull over a car because its the same as one thats been identified in a domestic. All you know is the colour and model. You pull over a car that is the wrong one. While there you search the car and find two RIF's. Ones a say a MP5 and the other a SA80. What do you do from here?

My TWO sisters (yes, both of them!) were both stupid enough to buy child's tickets on the bus (they are 18 and 20) and then unlucky enough to be challenged and caught by a ticket inspector. You may think they were punished the usual way maybe - thrown off the bus? On the spot fine? Made to pay the difference up to an adult ticket? I recently moved on a group of boy racers from an area where dispersal orders were in place, but one of the cars had their rear number plate covering an illegal plate. The plates were the same but the illegal one had letters not complying with current legislation. To put a picture in your head (note the plate below is not the real one for obvious reasons) Illegal read - A123 BCE Legal read - A123 BCE What is the law of covering a plate not legal for road use with one that is? For those who like the law ! I hope that I can clarify some of the points raised by this thread in two or three postings as it is something which I have been researching for over 10 years now. In answer to the original posting by Gnhouse, he would qualify for a firearm for defensive purposes based on the fact that he already has a certificate which confirms that he is fitted to be entrusted with firearms. Please note that you’re issued with a certificate, not a licence. A certificate confirms a qualification ie you are a fit person to have firearms whereas a licence make something legal which would otherwise be illegal. ie licence to sell drink or driving licence. …
