Decided to look into my employers ESP policy today and it turns out it is very generous.15 days per year. I'm only part time but pro rota it still works out at 12.9 years a year. Anyway, spoke to my line manager who happily approved 1 day per month off in paid leave to do police duty. Woot!

Happy New Year peeps. Back to square 1 for everyone on the points and Adamski has chosen a new theme for us all: It will be - ROUTINE The Rules Photos to be entered on this thread between now and 21:00 on the 23rd January 2014. Judging will then be from 23rd January until probably around 21:00 on 31st January 2014. (I'm flying again on the 24th, hence the shorter time this month) The rules are mostly the same as previously: 1 - The submitted photograph must be your own work. 2 - Group members may only submit one entry per month to the competition. 3 - Flickr is preferred (as it makes things really really easy, but is not essential) 4 - Exif details are no…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-25962490 It shocks me that anyone in the emergency service or armed forces can do sterling work. Saving lioves, protecting the public and receive bravery awards. Then 1 thing no matter how small they are hung out to dry. I am not talking gross misconduct or negligence but a misdiagnosis of sprained ankle etc. Who the hell actually complained? Makes me sick.

As I am a little fed up of posting serious stuff lately, I thought I would start a thread relating to phrases or words which make you sound cultured and educated (hiding the fact that you are actually thick ) Following in on from this, to widen the topic, think of examples where words or phrases are unwittingly used incorrectly, often with hilarious results. For instance, one word often (ab)used is 'Pacific' As in..."Do you have any Pacific complaint in this matter" Perhaps this refers to gripes whilst on a cruise. Another heard regularly in Police Stations: "What's your ethniticity Sir?" Perhaps this relates to diversity in the Electricity Board..... Anyw…

So, any suggestions about this one? "I worked for the police for many years and have a son who is currently in the job, so still have quite a lot of contacts. A few weeks back I was told a story which they promise is absolutely true. Shortly after Christmas, two police officers are doing some enquiries at some flats and as it's simple work, they split up to visit two of the flats. One of the young coppers goes to the flat of an elderly lady who is very pleasant but a bit confused. However, she asks the officer to take his boots off and, not wishing to cause her any distress, he reluctantly does so, removing them outside the front door and putting them in her hallway. H…
