Hey, i was wondering if anyone had any pics of the new IRVs or "pandas", that west mids have got. On Friday i seen a 308 on a truck just down from Stoney, at the island with the Islamic pillar on it, with a 60 plate, LED lightbar (Whelen Liberty, same as the MET use) and i think the new Cov markings e.g: CV001, i couldn't get a picture because it was dark and i was on the other side of the island. I think Coventry are getting new cars, with the number of spares Ive seen knocking about the last week. Thanks!

Following on from another thread, how do other LPU's engage specials who seem to have "slipped through" the net? There was talk last year of putting some specials lead ops together e.g night time economy patrols,ASB patrols and the like, now I understand with the new set up with CAPT teams the like this comes under there remit now, But do we think there is still space for us Specials to run ops in this new order? I reckon with a few well planned and well preformed operations this could possible get officers re-engaged with this job we all signed up for?

OK from what I can gather there are still intakes of specials but the only route it seem that is still open is by undertaking the Policing Degree at Wolverhampton Uni is currently running, 3 years coarse at£8.000 a year I think and the last year you are allowed to apply to become a SC. It seems odd that this is the only way into the force for SC at the minute when friends of mine want to apply and can't and one friend had his recruitment frozen even tho he had completed all the stage and was let down at the last stage. Is that really fair?

Hey hey, We this goes out to all my fellow SC and PC's what do you think some good skills are to know as a SC what do you think the basic skills should be of us? Understand basic paperwork such as crime reports and basic statements Good understanding of thing such as Custody (booking in.....searches.....handling property) And to any PC's would like prefer SC to be like just another full time officer e.g skills/ knowledge or do you mind helping us along when needed or do you see SC more as a dead weight on a shift?????

So I was walking my dog the other night on a road in Yardley, East Birmingham (so BE LPU) and two figures walked up the road, no Hi vis wearing a custodian and a bowler and NPU fleeces - however these were the style of NPU fleece Staffordshire issue (like AJ has) - they had Klickfast Docks and the 'POLICE' and 'Police Community Support Officer/Traffic' badge below the radio, I turn round with my dog after he did his business and look at their backs and to my shock I see a police patch that looked like this (mockup); So is this an official jacket or something the officer's had made on the side? It did look the business if it was real - the PCSO had the usual PCSO fleece…

Just a quick FYI for all my fellow PS friends, my best mate from my old work is a S/Insp for West Mids and he has just been offered a PC job. All I can tell you so go hunt for internal info and so on. Good luck.

Excellent... £50,000 for 122 ovens, maintenance contracts can't be that much, even a modest cooker (£400-£500) is covered by comet for £25 a year! So I am sure a service company can do better, especially if it had 122 of them on the contract... So say that is £410 a year per cooker... minus £25 for maintenance fee, that leaves £1.05 per cooker, per day for energy costs... Which means at a cost of, say, 15p per kWh (which is pretty high), all the 122 cookers (assuming 1kWh, which is pretty high) are used, on average, between 7-8 hours a day... Was just wondering when the induction will be for the specials and what it consists of? As I know there are quite a few people on the waiting list including me, who've passed the selection process and now have been waiting for months and months for a starting date to begin training.
