Hi, just a query for the specials out there. In relation to the actual role of specials now, what exactly are you tasked to do? Specials used to turn out with response teams but since CI they were aligned to CAPT/NHT. I just wondered who actually directs Specials when those teams they are attached to aren't on duty. I've seen a van of specials drive around doing their own thing on nights and responding to disorder jobs but also a random pair driving around the LPU in various using a marked car but not actually tasked to deal with anything and not asked to respond to jobs.

I find it a bit unfair that West Midlands Police are looking to start 50 new PCSOs ahead of the waiting PC recruits that have been on hold having passed selection in 2009. Their funding may come from a different pot, but still... Anyone got any thoughts on this?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-21378893 PC Chris Findley dies after attack outside Divine Bar A 33-year-old police constable has died after being punched during a fight outside a Wolverhampton nightclub. Chris Findley was off duty when he suffered serious head injuries outside Divine Bar, Darlington Street, at about 04:30 GMT on 28 January. He was walking past the club when he became involved in a row with a man and women leaving the venue, police said. Fellow officers described PC Findley, who joined West Midlands Police in 2003, as a "selfless and humble man". The Sandwell-based PC was in a critical condition following the incident and died shortl…

After recently dealing with an incident that involved me, ambulance staff and the mental health team arguing over a PoS for a young female suffering from psychosis I decided to have look at Insp Browns excellent Mental Health Blog. Great training page for officers if you have got the time to watch the video. Also its all filmed on the BS.... http://mentalhealthcop.wordpress.com/police-guidance/place-of-safety-training-videos/ and yes it is the bar at Tally Ho! in the videos.

Hello Folks, I've heard from a source which should be reliable that West Midlands Police has a diving team for searches and recovery of forensics, bodies, cars etc from watery places, be that lakes, drains or canals etc. I've had a look on the website and so far can find little about this. Would anyone be able to confirm if West Mids does indeed have such a unit. Thanks, John

I know the Met have advertised for a new chief officer for the Special Constabulary but does anyone know what's happening with West Midlands? I was under the impression our Chief Officer was retiring at the end of November but I have not seen any adverts go out? As anyone else heard anything?

I trained with Karen a few years back now, as did a few members of the forum, absolutely brilliant officer who also worked as a civvy for WMP and will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with her.

I've been reading a lot of stuff on this and another on-line duty systems, I was wondering if there are any rumours of deploying such a system within west Mids? I have a friends in Warwickshire and they use a similar system and it seem ALOT easier than what we are currently using here. http://www.dutysheet.com/
