I am currently coming up on the Autumn 2014 intake for West Midlands Police regulars. I have been thinking to apply for the Specials for some time but have left it due to my commitments to the Army Reserves. If I were to apply for the Specials now, would that affect my application for the regulars? Also, does the 6 month (failure) period apply for both Regulars and Specials as one? By which I mean, can I apply for one, the other or both?

I've been thinking of going to college to get a public services qualification behind me for joining regulars. The guy I spoke to at the college said that west mids wanted the full time level 3 BTEC/diploma course rather than the level 3 certificate part time course, is this true? Also I've started an application for specials with west Mercia, would I just be better off with specials and gaining the knowledge that way? Thanks Becky

Hi guys I have recently gone through regular recruitment with West Midlands I've passed all the stages and I have recently attended the force final interview which I am still waiting on the results for. I know I should probably already know the answer to this at this stage but does anybody know how the pay increments work? I'm told the starting salary is £21,999 at what points do they go up? Does it stay at £21,999 until you have completed your two years probation or does it go up after the 4 month initial training? Kind regards Matt

Hi, I would be really grateful if you could help me out. I got a penalty notice for disorder (PND) for cannabis possession a few months ago. This was on the side of the road and I was given a £90 fine. I was not arrested or taken to the station. I was told this would not mean I have a criminal record but it may show up on some checks. On the back of the penalty notice slip, it stats that a PND does not amount to a criminal conviction, will be recorded on the PNC and information of the PND may be disclosed in a enhanced check, when relevant. My questions are: - Is it really recorded on the PNC (the national police database) and not the local one? as I called up WM …

Hi guys I'm currently a PCSO and I have applied for West Midlands and passed the paper sift and also passed the telephone interview. I have my day at the assessment centre booked and I was looking to do a course to help my chances. I have heard Talking Blues do a good course and I was hoping to do one however all the dates offered are when I'm on shift at work. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other course providers local to the midlands? Regards Matt

People, As we are now LPU's and havent been Divisions for some time, having gone through the term OCU's also........... Does any body think we should maybe think about changing our grade titles, such as District / Divisional Officer. I know some forces use Special SGT and Special Inspector ETC and I'm starting to think this my not be a bad idea. Im nothing but a lowly SC myself so those who think I just want to walk around with the title SGT or Insp would be wrong. I dont see anything wrong in the grade insignia (Currently bars) as stripes and pips would get confusing for some poor regs but modernising the titles should be looked into I believe. Please Discuss......…
