Hi all, I'm just looking for some info on the force eyesight requirements. I have one eye which is a less strong than the other. I've never been precribed glasses or contacts or anything from any optician but I'm wondering if anyone thinks this will hinder my attemps to join the force. I have my standard entrance test and fitness assessment end of February. I have researched the eyesight requirements but not being an optician myself the numbers etc don't mean a lot to me! Any help at all is appreciated.

Hi guys, First time poster (well technically 2nd) but have been lurking with intent for a while now & as i have my assessment centre & final interview coming up i thought i'd introduce myself & share a little about my recruitment experience. I applied in Sept 2012, had my combined Fitness & SET in Feb 2013, Initial Interview was in March 2013 which i passed & was advised i would now move to Vetting stage. This is where things hit a little snag shall we say & i received a letter at the end of April 2013 to say that i had failed the vetting stage! Gutted would be putting it mildly but i was advised of the reason for my fail & allowed to appeal.…

So I've just read in the Sunday Post (Will post the article when the online Edition is uploaded) that Police Scotland are considering asking all applicants to serve time as a Special before they're eligible to apply for the role of Police Constable. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this considering I've not quite made up my own mind yet?

Hi everyone I'm hoping someone can help me out a little. I'm currently making an attempt at the application form but struggling to think up scenarios for the 3 main competency questions. I'm aware that these can be from work or personal life but I'm really struggling to put something together. Can anyone give me a hint as to what sort of scenarios they incorporated into their application? Also should the application be hand written or typed? I going for electronic but just wanted another's opinion. Many thanks and any help at all would be appreciated. Dan

This story has been getting a lot of attention in the office this week http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/police-warn-of-illegal-searches-in-bid-to-meet-new-targets.23075910 In general it has been about the ongoing debate around 'stop search' and what is and isn't correct. The stand out part for me was this A 20% increase in any type of offence would usually result in outcry but this seems to be something the force are proud of. A rather costly side effect could be the hit Scottish motorists take in the pocket when they go to renew their insurance. Insurance companies calculate a lot of their quotes based on the level of crime in an area and in particular …

Hi guys, Hope everyone has had a nice Xmas. Recruitment are on holiday at the minute and was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to mine. I've completed recruitment and have passed my final fitness test, just waiting on a start date for Tullialan (Indications point to early February). Looking to go abroad on holiday for 2 weeks in July 2014, is it possible to declare holidays before you start so that they are honored? Or do they make you wait and book them once you're placed at a station (I applied for E). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, B-Man

Hi folks, I know there are a hundred and one threads about boots and general equipment but I was wondering if the likes of warrant card holders, notebook holders and belt pouches are provided for new recruits when they start at the castle or if you even need them right away? Obviously the first thing I wanted to do when getting the info pack through was to buy everything the spra shop had to offer but figured I'd cool the jets and see first! Any help appreciated.

Hi I'm currently in the middle of my Specials training and have found out that there is a multiple choice test paper at the end of our training. Has anyone else done it and if so how many questions are there and how hard is it? Thanks

Hello all! The next stage for me will be my Uniform Fitting! I just have a question about boots! Can you buy your own or do you have to wear the boots supplied by stores? I think I'll need to get Parade Shoes when I'm there. Just a query really! Thanks

Just as stated in the topic heading. I just want a rough opinion/guidance on the situation before I approach my line manager about it. Essentially my partner is moving up to north division (for non police related work) and has asked about me transferring....sadly I am technically just in the door and been at division for a few weeks in legacy strathclyde, does anyone know what to do (if at all possible) on transferring divisions? Cheers, Dark Alex
