Hello all, Does anyone know if you are allowed to apply to HMRC for a tax rebate due to washing of uniform as a Police Scotland officer? I read on MoneySavingExpert that it may be possible. Cheers, Scott

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have applied for a few Police Staff vacancies which, unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in. This week, another two vacancies were opened which I would like to apply for but I think it may be useful to see if anyone has any hints and tips for completing Section 9 of the application form which asks you to explain how you match the competencies set out in the job description. Now, I have asked and Recruitment confirmed that they are NOT looking for answers submitted using the STAR method. Here are the two jobs: http://www.scotland.police.uk/recruitment/police-staff/current-vacancies/283114/ http://www.sc…

Hi all, As you can see, I am a new member and from my introduction, you can see that I wish to apply to become a Special some time in the second half of the year with intentions to become a Regular after a couple of years of being a Special. One thing that makes me worry about being a Special is that I have heard that Regulars really are not too fond of you. I have mainly seen these comments regarding English Constabularies, so my question is this. Are Specials treated differently and is the whole 'Hobby Bobby' situation relevant in Police Scotland? Regards, MA0401

I have been invited to a fitness test in Aberdeen - but I am based in Kinross. Does this seems right? I know that's where the recruitment is based for ex-Tayside, but seems a bit far and means taking a full day off work. I have a feeling they have got my application mixed up as they have also asked me to specify which division(s) I prefer and there is no reference to "Special" on the letter. Anyway, I have asked them to clarify.

Hi all, For anyone starting out on their application, just thought I'd share a service I found and have used for my own: www.policerecruitmentscotland.co.uk They have experience in all areas of the recruitment process and offer a superb service from start to finish. This includes an application form check, and tips for completing a strong Police Officer Application Form as well as Assessment and Interview Skills Training. I found the half day course a fantastic help. Cheers.

Hi all. I think I may suffer from dyslexia, but I have never been diagnosed. I've heard that the police would pay for a dyslexia test, but I'm wondering if there would be much point. Also, does anyone in here suffer from dyslexia? How are you treated by your shift, gaffers etc? Any advice would be great, cheers.

Hi all, Hoping for a bit of guidance on this one. I am yet to submit my application for the Scottish Police Force as I want to ensure I am competent in all areas of the SETs first. I have been looking for some study material and have come across the 'How2Become' workbooks for joining the Scottish Police. My question; before I spent £40 on the workbooks, has anyone any experience with them? They looks to be tailored specifically for the Scottish Police 2015.. if that's possible. Any thoughts on it would be good! Cheers, Mark
