hi all, has anyone got any advice regarding the new look assessment day and interview? having applied previously I have experienced the competency based interview, but really don't know how they structure the interview this time or if much has change at all. Any advice on how to be prepared and what I should know this time round would be really appreciated.

I don't know if it's a silly question, but you know how these wee rules can exist that perhaps wouldn't cross your mind as an issue. Thought I would ask to be certain. Thanks.

Hi, I'm not sure if this question is permitted but can anyone give any insight on the new SET's for police Scotland, the maths portion in particular? I did well using the practice papers and a calculator for the old SET's but no practice papers and no calculator for the new one has me worried. What level of maths are maths are they expecting, just basic mental arithmetic? Thanks

Hi guys, just had an email inviting me to the new style fitness test, which is the 1.5 mile run. now this might sound like a stupid question, but I thought I’d ask it anyway. I can run the 1.5mile distance in the stipulated time no problem, however, I always seem to get to about a mile and need to stop for about a 30-40 second breather before continuing on. Is this allowed in the test? Or does it have to be continuous for the entire 1.5 mile? Thanks in advance guys and sorry if this is a stupid question.

Hi all. I’m a current DC in Surrey Police looking to transfer ideally to L division. Been down south for a while and it’s time to move back home. Worked in specialist teams for the last 8 years (SOIT, Online child abuse team, CID and proactive & new entrant recruitment) To be honest I’ve no idea what to expect. Are there any transferees who’ve done it and can give any advice? I understand it’ll be a 4 week conversion course. Is it written in stone that you would generally have to go back into uniform to find your feet?

Hi all, So I went to the opticians to have my eyesight test done, for my SC application. The optician explained that I am red/green colour blind and noted it on the form. Occupational health have called me today, asking for me to get some more details from the optician, including the severity of my colour blindness and how many plates I failed in the Ishihara test . The nurse explained if it is strong then it is the end of the line for me. I can clearly distinguish colour including red and green and I drive, using traffic lights etc, but feel I may have failed quite a few plates. From doing a bit of research I came across the 2003 Home Office guidelines (attached) whi…

Are applicants who passed the old Standard Entrance Tests (from a previous application) still considered to have 'banked' the entry test under the new selection process when they reapply?

I previously sat my SET and fitness successfully back in 2016 in Edinburgh but have to redo due to having no record being kept. Is it still the case that these are done locally or is it always neccesary to travel to Jackton?

Hi Folks, Been lurking on these forums for a few months now, finally got round to applying to join the Police Force, applied on Wednesday and got a acknowledgement today, however email says it could take 12-18 months, seems a very long wait?

Has anyone heard about the process supposedly being changed? I've been told that the initial competency interview has been scrapped and the process is now this: SETs/Fitness AC/drugs test Medical Vetting The interview on the AC I have been told is also values based and not competency. Can anyone shed any light on this? It was apparently changed to this in February.

Evening all, Essentially, I am looking to transfer from A to J divisons, preferably the Scottish Borders. Can anybody in here advise how it all works? I'm aware I need to submit paperwork etc, however is it a case of submit and wait? Biggest issue here would be that I am a home owner and would need to sell then buy a property within the time scales provided. In an ldeal world, submit transfer for example at Easter, then then get a provisional date for say December, which allows me and family to get sorted. But of course this is Police Scotland were talking about. Are they obliged to inform you of timescales etc or will one …

Hi there. Does anyone know if you're allowed the use of a calculator whilst taking the new tests? I'm pretty sure you were on the old tests. It does not specify on the Police Scotland website. Thanks in advance
