Hi there I am a special constable currently with Northumbria Police. I have just been offered a new job in Livingston. I would like to transfer to the Lothian & Borders specials. I made initial inquiries but it looks as if it would not be a simple transfer but a full blown start again from scratch. It would seem a bit pointless to go through everything such as medical, security check etc as a currently serving officer. Can anyone shed any light on this. Thanks SC 5036

There seem to be ample numbers of us chatting away on our threads to lead me to suspect that a get-together for a meal, chat and (obviously) drinks; would generally be a good idea. If there are enough people interested then I’m happy to organise a venue. Anyone with any suggestions/preferences is more than welcome to PM me. I’m deliberately not posting any venue suggestions on the public forum (you never know who’s reading and the local neds might decide that it’s open season on off-duty polis!) however, we can openly discuss it in the Stronghold or via PMs. Now I know us Scots don’t really need an excuse for ‘ye olde jovial jamboree’ so, as a result, yo…

Hello! Well it's the Oath of Office this Sunday, well done everyone reading this from the same intake as me! But 90% of us seem NOT to have our body armour! Does anyone know how long it will take to get it? We were told we'd have it on time but different folk in Strathclyde tell you different things about everything! So alas, we were told we won't have it on time yesterday and will most likely be held up until possibly the end of January or even longer?! Uch. lol

Source=http://www.strathclyde.police.uk/recruitment/Special_Constables/Training_and_Deployment/I seem to be getting lots of different information on this one. Some people (mainly officers from training) say Specials are going to be (and indeed currently are) a very important part of Strathclyde Police. But the website would have you believe that we're put into Community Policing, so that more regulars can do other stuff. Not that I mind, in fact I reckon i'd enjoy community policing, I just thought I'd find out exactly what happens after training.

Hi all, been away for a while due to an injury, but whilst looking through recent posts there seems to be mention of Specials being offered Regular positions within Strathclyde !, Can anyone shed some light on where this comes from ?, is this a local offer or only for recently passed out Specials, is the offer subject to a full re-application/Set/medical. cheers

Hi All, Just got a letter this morning to say i have failed the vetting process before my final interview. I am extremely surprised and gutted to say the least, and cannot understand why?.....the only reason i can think of, is the fact that i have some rental properties on the go at the moment. I stated early on to recruitment officers that if this was going to be a problem, i would sell them right away, which they said 'it would be fine'. This is the only reason i can think of as i am financially ok and have never had points etc, or bad credit. I have written a letter to the chief inspector in charge to ask for the reasoning behind it. anyone else experienced anything …

I have just got a letter telling me to go for a fitness test for the specials says in it about a 1.5 mile run. I thought it was only the regs that had to do that

Random question... When you become a regular, does anyone know what the notice period is if you decide you want to leave the police in later years?

I have been in the reward scheme since it started. It used to be 30 periods of anti-disorder, 10 special events and 5 periods of training. I was wondering if that was still the case or if you clock up 180 hours or 40 periods of duty then you qualify. Reason behind this is that I have loads of anti disorder but only two of special events so far this year so would struggle to reach 10 by the end of March
