Hey, Long story cut short. was standing next to my mate who is a rail conductor, was having a chat with him at a ticket stop in a station. A man in a suit passed us, flashed his warrant card and continued on his travels. (Strathclyde police not BTP before anyone comments). Do police get free travel or is he just chancing it? I asked my friend but he didnt have a definite answer, he just said that he has always let people by that have warrant cards because thats what his other colleuges do. Anyone give me an answer? Cheers.

Hey, whats Strathclyde's policy on specials tours of duty? i know 4 hours is classed as a tour of duty, but is there any regulations or rules that say we couldn't/can't work a full shift (obviously the only consideration being that we are under the "39" hour working week)... Is this in the SoPs or anything? Cheers. Chris P.S (ADD ON) I'm only asking this as i am a student and have a bit more free time on my hands than someone who is in full time employment, i'm not mad :D

Hi All, I am in the final stages of completing my application form for Strathclyde and wondered if anyone can give me some tips for maximising my applcation for paper sift success, i.e. what they are looking for. I have good life skills gained through my current post as a retail deputy manager. I have also been involved in charity fund raising and a parent helper with my 2 daughters primary school plus fund raising for school support. I have been given mixed advice about how little or much detail to put onto the form and what can be saved for interview. I am also a little concerned over the financial section, due to 2 loans that I have. The loans are up to date and I am …

Hi all, Hope everyones' application process is going well. I have my SET this Sunday. Very much looking forward to it but am slightly nervous at the same time!! Just a couple of questions, hope i don't sound daft. . . . .Do you attend the centre in smart/casual wear or is it best to go in say jogging bottoms/t-shirt etc? (Hoping i pass the three papers first obviously). Are you supplied with pens/pencil etc? I did sit the papers a couple years back but can't really remember what the set up was. Thanks for now.

Hi there, my name's John and I'm.....Oh sorry wrong meeting/forum. Just thought I would post a wee intro as I'm sure I may end up buggin' the bejeezus out of you, and you might as well know a wee bit about me. I'm a nigh on 40 year old guy, and I've been thinking on this Specials idea for a bit now. My brother in law completed his training and I was at his Oath of Office ceremony on the 13th Dec. At the ceremony I bumped into an old friend who is now one of the training staff at Jackton, and he asked if I fancied applying. My answer was, 'Absolutly!' but I was concerned about my age...I mean I'm a big lump of a boy, but I'm relativly fit. I work out with stupidly he…

Hi, I have recently emailed my application and since then have checked my credit report on creditexpert.co.uk, unknown to me it is listed that I have 2 'default' debts of approx £400 and £600 with mobile phone companies going back a few years. I was in dispute with the companies at the time as I lost the phones and had reported this to the companies at the time (so I suspect fraud / someone else clocking up a large bill). Should I contact Jackton to declare this as a debt (even though I'm in dispute over it)? And if not, will it show up during vetting anyway, or is that just CCJs, bankrupcies etc? Any help/advice would be great Thanks!

Morning all, How bad is the snow in Edinburgh this morning!! It's meant I've had to cancel my planned Specials dayshift today to come to work instead. :D The frustrating thing is that I'm only here to cover and it's probably going to be a pretty short day with very little to do!! I'd much rather be out policing than sitting here in the office. Saying that - who's up for a snowball fight! In case I don't get a chance to come back on before Xmas - All the best to everyone out there, have a good one! :D Cheers Mark

According to Grampian Police's FAQs for those interested in becoming a Special Constable: "Q11. Can I arrest people? Yes, while on duty a Special Constable has exactly the same powers as a regular Officer. However a regular officer can make an arrest whilst off duty but a Special Constable cannot." Minor point I know, but this doesn't actually exclude the Special from putting him/herself back on duty if the need arose. And secondly; surely the regular Constable, by making an arrest whilst off duty, likewise puts him/herself back on duty! Should perhaps be read as: "We would prefer if Special Constables didn't go around arresting folk willy-nilly"...? (Again, minor …
