Hi first post here, there is a lot of useful info so I've been reading a lot! My question is how long should I expect it to take between sending in the application to being accepted (assuming interviews, tests etc all go well!) The reason I ask is I would like to apply soon but my partner is pregnant with our first - due june/july so I really dont want to end up at Tulliallan during those first few months! Reading back through the posts it seems it can vary a lot depending how far back on the forum I go, so what is the current length of the process? Also, is the Tulliallan course residential for the full 15 wks or do you get any time off? I only live 10 miles away in…

Hi everyone, have just emailed my application for strathclyde police and am continuing to do my research, a minor detail, i was just wondering. I did an 'access to police' course at college and was told the 6 tulliallan modules are General Police Duties Police and the Community Crime Evidence Road Traffic IT The last being information technology, however most other sources say there is no 'IT' and that the module is Investigative Skills. Can anyone help clarify this? Cheers.

Okay chaps. Do you remember "Copper Cards". As a youngster in the 80's I remember an initiative with the Fife Police where they distributed these cards to us kids as an information medium on the role of a police officer. I have thought about these cards for a long time and have never seen any appear on the normal internet auction sites but I'd love to see some pictures or more information as to where I might buy some from. I can't really remember what they had on the cards or how long they were distributed for but I do remember us kids being obsessed with getting as many as we could. I'm not in the force but I wonder if this initiative would be worth revisiting? I h…

Hi there, there is a question on the practice papers that I bought, that I'm not fully understanding. I've shown it to a friend of mine who is a retired Inspector and he also thinks the answer in the answer sheets it wrong. I'd like to know how the answer is arrived at the correct way and I hope someone here can explain it to me. Q5. How many people all together were driving under age and without insurance? (On the chart there are 10 rows and 2 of them are 'Driver under age' and 'Driving without insurance', then in 6 columns there are percentages of 'Drivers, Passengers, Motorcyclists, Pedal cycles, Pedestrians and others'. The correct answer in the answer sheet is '425…

I was working at the weekend in a more challenging area of G Division in policing terms. My neighbour and I drove by a group of around nine youths standing around a block of flats and we decided to turn around and have a chat. As we got out of our vehicle they were extremely vocal, shouting and swearing and clearly unhappy that we had stopped to speak to them. In all honesty this is the most hostile group I've had to deal with so far, hence this post. When my neighbour told them to line up, we were met with a torrent of abuse and the atmosphere quickly deteriorated from bad to worse. One male was the ring leader and I was concerned that violence was on the cards and was …

Hey Guys, Was walking down my local main street and i clock'ed a rather large man in a "police" hi-vis jacket. Nothing unusual.. on closer inspection i see he is not a Police officer but our local pest of a Traffic Warden, with his lovely traffic warden hat and his array of tickets and electronic booking thing.. (100% not a police officer before someone says anything) Is he allowed to be wearing a jacket that has POLICE branded across the back of it? what happens if a situation starts where he is identified as a Police officer because of this... etc? Anyone feel like maybe commenting on this. :D Thanks.

Here's a question for those in the know. I'm an only child, so my blood family are my parents who live in Glasgow and that's it apart from cousins, aunts, and uncles whom I've not seen since the year dot, and my wife and I are the only residents at our property in Kilmarnock. The app form also asks if (if I'm recalling correctly as I don't have the form in front of me just now) if I have any relatives who are serving Strathclyde Police officers or employees of Strathclyde Police. My Brother in Law (My wife's wee brother) both works for Starthclyde Police and is a Special Constable, and my Sister in Law (My wife's wee sister) is an employee of Strathclyde Police. I con…
