Hi Curious to know your views on older applicants. I applied a few years ago but failed the initial interview. Kicking myself that I didn't try again, always thought about it. I'm now 44 and really want to give it another go......lifes too short. Are there any other older applicants out there? Did you go through training with an older applicant? Would love to hear what you think. Thanks S

Hello there, I'm based in G Division and will be coming out my probation soon. Sadly with the job in the current condition I cannot envisage it being a job for life anymore, along with many other probationers I've spoke to in G div. I'd just like to hear from other people, is the job this bad all across the board, how's morale in other divisions? Cheers.

Hi folks, I've recently been givien a provisional offer of appointment and if everything goes to plan I should be heading to tulliallan by the 25th of sept. I'm just wondering how likely it is that I will get my first choice of placement (fife) as I know that Edinburgh is in high demand at the moment, which is my second choice. Any other tips or advice for tulliallan and the upcoming weeks before hand would also be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys I have almost completed my application thank god haha, just need to get it double checked n if it's good then I can send it off. Does anyone have an idea on how long I would wait until I get an e-mail back to hopefully if I pass this bit get invited to do the fitness and SET tests? I am also going to be getting books to keep me going with the SET tests which are the Scottish ones but you can get the interview techniques one. Have any of you got them and are they any good? Thanks

Hey all, Just wondered if anyone knew if it is possible to serve in a seperate city from the one that you reside in? Grew up and live in Edinburgh, but would really like a change of scenery, somewhere up north would be perfect. I figure that if Im seeing policing as my career path up until retirement I would rather begin somewhere that I would be happy to make a life for myself and settle down, I've never left edinburgh so would love to start policing in another city and really start to build a life and settle down there. Does anyone know if you can request to serve in a different city than the one you stay in? Or would I need to police in Edinburgh? Its pre…

Morning all Sent my application off mid-March and was told later it was being processed but forwarded to vetting due to some financial declarations. I am still waiting patiently but before I start gently nagging at their heels does anyone know from experience whether this means I'm at least through the papersift phase? Or is the vetting done before they even look at my application? Thanks

Morning Out of curiosity - for a regular officer application, does the location of the office in which your vetting is being processed any indicator as to where you're being posted? To clarify, I have posted preferences for the sake of proximity to family: Perth, Forth Valley and Edinburgh yet my application is being processed in Aberdeen? Lastly, at what point, provided the assessment hoops are being progressively jumped through, does an applicant find out their assigned station? Thanks all

Does anyone know whether it's possible to change your posting preferences, or worth doing so? I'm currently going through west, and Greater Glasgow would be ideal for me, but starting to think about changing to another location if I might be able to start sooner. I had my provisional offer a few months ago. Has anyone else done this? Also, what locations would be best to choose if I did do this - is Edinburgh more in need of officers than Glasgow at the moment?

So I had my initial interview last week and it didn't got too well, I felt that because I had prepared two examples per competency that it actually went against me, I found it very difficult to then change them so that I answered the question properly. When I apply again I'd be better just 'winging' it as I think my answer would be a lot better. One of the areas I really struggled with was coming up with an example for confronting diversity and equality, I really don't know what it is they're wanting when they mean confronting. The example I had given was about a team member in a previous job who was experiencing some racism towards him which I confronted by raisin…

Hey everyone, Been getting conflicting information and was wondering if there was a serving officer available to give some information. Are all shifts the legacy shift patterns or do they vary station to station? If they are legacy does anyone have the Strathclyde one to hand they could provide me with? I'm not worried about shifts, do them currently, more curious to see if I could look at what I would be potentially working and see if their are any parts of the roster that are better for taking annual leave (My current roster for example has a week of nights, a full week off and then five early shifts. So I often take the earlies off to give myself two weeks…
