Hello all! I've been lurking for a while but finally had a question I wanted to ask. I've completed both my days (woot) and am currently waiting for vetting to complete. I've been emailed asking for preferred training dates, and I'm trying to figure out what's the best option. I'd strongly prefer to do the full-time course if I can. But I'm not sure if I can take that much time off work. I do have flexible hours, though, so I feel like something might be possible. I wanted to ask someone who's recently trained: What are the hours? Is it 7-5 (or similar) for the whole course or does it vary from week to week? If it varies, what are the rough hours for each week? How mu…

When you wear the smart tunic does the sc crown just clip on to the shoulder? It's not like the shirt or jacket where you put the blue bit on first? If that makes sense.

Heard something at training school the other day about a change of uniform from normal trousers to combat type and no longer wearing shirts and taking a similar approach to county forces (wearing t-shirt type tops) anyone clarify?

Interesting article from BBC News, following a recent report by the GLA. It's such a shame that our victim care gets a bad press after all the things we've been doing to try and improve it during the last year - this report, looking at the 12 months to June 2012, so none of the recent changes have been taken into account. For those that don't know about Total Victim Care, a mandatory NCALT which is now available.... enjoy! Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21148417

At an awards evening I attended last week, I was lucky enough to meet the new Chief Officer MSC John Conway and also the Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey. As you are all aware perhaps the most hotly debated topic throughout the Met, and definitely on this part of PS.com, is how many PCs are going to be recruited over the next few years? Well as part of the Deputy Commissioner's speech at the ceremony he said, 'the Met will be recruiting 5000 PCs over the next 3 years.' Unfortunately there wasn't any further update on what role the MSC would be expected to play post-Met-Change. Hopefully this news will bring a bit of a smile to all of us desperate to get into the job, as …

All, Is there an updated non-08 number for HR. The one provided on these forums (0208 358 0344) doesn't appear to be working. Many thanks.

Hi, about 6 months ago I passed my day1 for pcso in the met, later that month to be told they were terminating my application and everybody else's due to cuts. But today, I have received an email asking me to become a public access officer? All it says is I don't have to apply or have test/interview, just a medical. There was no job description? So what is this "new" role? Thanks for any advice.

So lads and lasses... I was wandeirng, as soon as you attest, I've been hearing it's not at all easy to go out there on duty straight away as you might need to take certain courses which teach you how to use a few systems that is a requirement before you can go out on your first duty... ...and if you haven't done these courses you normally have to stay inside the station or something, no clue... Can anyone clarify? ...also if possible, could you give me a list of courses you would prefferabley need to take up to get out on patrol as soon as? and am I allowed to take these courses DURING my training? Thanks!
